“Bayswater Hotel Kings Cross”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

The Bayswater Hotel, is a clean comfortable hotel.

Great location, friendly staff, small clean rooms good for anyone travelling. Best to request a room at the back as it is opposite nightclubs and very noisy.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights at the beginning of October 2012.

We were very happy with the hotel in general. The location is ideal, with transport links available on your doorstep - buses run from Bayswater Road to pretty much anywhere in the city, and the train station is about two minutes walk away...this also takes you to most areas in the city...and beyond (including the airport).

The room we stayed in was very comfortable with a large bed and a small sofa. The toilet/showeroom could have been a bit bigger, but it was acceptable.

The only downside to the hotel was the noise, as there is a bar/club across the road on Bayswater Road. If like us you are in Sydney for a brief time, you will be knackered after a day on the go, so the noise won't be an issue. If on the otherhand, you are staying here hoping for some peace and quiet, you might be disappointed.

On the whole, I would recommend the hotel as it makes for a perfect city base!

Thank you for staying with Sydney Lodges at The Bayswater Sydney.

We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. You're absolutely right, Kings Cross is certainly not the most quiet of areas in Sydney, but we think the excitement of the suburb in terms of bars and restaurants makes up for it!

A very compact room and bathroom but a fantastic base to explore Sydney - right by the train station. It's worth getting the breakfast from the deli next door, they bring it through for you to eat in the foyer and it's really good value.

We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. It's great to hear you enjoyed dining at Bayswater Bru, a very special coffee shop just outside the hotel. We think the coffee is the best in the area!

My friend and I stayed at The Bayswater Sydney for 5 days in October.

LOCATION: The hotel is situated in King's Cross, very central, bustling location, and a minute walk to the train station. It's also near bars, cafes and cute restaurants so you have quite a selection for food and more. Cole's supermarket is located around the corner too. There's a great ice cream parlour less than a 10 min walk down the road at 241 Victoria St (Gelato Messina) which is a must try! If you are there on a Friday or Saturday night, the clubs and bars get busy and the area is bustling!

ROOMS: We had a room with no view (facing air well, but with sunlight and a bit of sky view) but that was OK as we were out of our room for most of the day roaming the city. The beds were HUGE -- our twin room came with one King-size and one Queen-size bed! You'll have a good sleep if you have been walking around Sydney streets all day. The bathroom, however, was tiny. The room was spacious and came with basic amenities. The only complaint we have is that the floor boards are thin / old. So as you can imagine, we could hear foot steps from the room above us (like loud foot steps!) that vibrated our room in the mornings when guest upstairs woke up -- I kid you not.

SERVICE: Free internet and city maps available in the lobby. There is also an airport shuttle bus to the airport (AU$12 per person). A taxi stand is located at the hotel doorstep. Staff were nice and helpful. Though I wish they provided more information on laundry or if they provided passes to a fitness center etc. There is a small cafe attached to the hotel at the entrance. Try the breakfast or have a cuppa in the morning while people-watching.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Despite the floor board noise, we did not mind it too much as we were out of the room by 11am most days and back late. What I loved most were the beds and the location of the hotel. I would come back to stay here again.

Room Tip: Book early, and maybe get a room on the top floor (to avoid foot step noises).

Very nice, clean hotel close to public transportation. Hotel is seated in a very busy run down part of Sydney (Kings Cross) but the trade off is that it is clean, cost effective with very courteous and helpful staff. You can get to all parts of Sydney via train in just a few minutes.

Great hotel in a perfect location for a weekend break to see Sydney. Super comfy bed and bacl out blinds make for a good nights sleep.

Fantastic cafe next door and I would recommend checking out the wine bar listed in the hotel room guide - a hidden gem and in my book one of the top 10 in Sydney.

Bayswater is on a side street just off Kings Cross so dont expect it to be quiet!

Rooms are not huge, however have everything you need and the website is clear about the size of the room.. so odnt complain if you think it is too small ;)

Room Tip: Front of hotel can be noisier.

This was the last 4 nights of our honeymoon. We had come from Canada via a cruise and it was difficult to book a hotel in a city absolutely unknown to us. We relied on the pictures and descriptions of the hotel website.
First there are 10 steps up to the reception from the street with no disabled access. As my husband has a problem with one knee this was difficult for him.
When we got to our room we could not believe it, my WALK IN CLOSET is larger than the bedroom and that is not an exaggeration. The bathroom was multifunctional, one could sit on the john and brush ones teeth at the same time, as the toilet and sink were so close together, one had to manipulate one leg around the stand of the basin just to sit on the toilet,
The carpet was filthy as was the blanket they put between two sheets to make it look good.
I did ask the desk if indeed this was a renovated room as I knew parts of the hotel had been under renovation (hence the smell of paint) and was assured that it was indeed a renovated room (they need to get their money back from the firm doing the renovations).
BUT probably the worst thing for me was the noise. We were right next to an alley and the businesses in the vicinity seemed to put out their bottles around midnight and the garbage truck came to pick up at exactly 6am ( at least you have to give them kudos for really good time keeping) If you managed to get to sleep in this time slot at least you got six hours but then if you were unlucky enough to be there on a weekend there was all sorts of street noise from the weekend revellers, the drunks who lived in the apartments on the other side of the alley ( The view of other peoples washing was stunning). The constant stream of sirens etc etc.
The area which has been described as colourful was actually rather convenient and certainly had lots of places to eat etc.
Facing a 20 hour flight home with 4 nights of very little sleep and 3 days of busy tours was a challenge.
I cannot in all conscience recommend this hotel to anyone who is not deaf or does not mind sleeping in a tiny room. The one thing that was good was the king bed. It was very comfy.
This is very definitely a case of YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
My husband notes that one of the three windows was very old and had a gap of about an eigth of an inch and the window sash and the window frame. Even after my husband stuffed cardboard into the gap to stop the window rattling in the wind, the window did nothing to stop the noise from outside.

Hi Bridget,

Well, your stay with us sounds just horrific, I'm very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay at The Bayswater Sydney.

Your walk-in closet at home sounds huge, to be over 15 square meters, I wish I had a walk-in closet as big as this! I'm sorry that you thought the rooms were bigger, we do include the size of the rooms in metres squared on our website. Furthermore, you did choose to book one of our cheaper rooms which does have less size, I would definitely recommend booking the Executive King Suite if size is an issue for you. We do also mention that the bathrooms are small on our website, I'm sorry if you missed this.

I would definitely recommend doing some travel research before you travel next. It seems you were after a very spacious and very quiet hotel in the middle of Kings Cross in Sydney, which to my knowledge does not really exist.

I'm sorry about the eighth of an inch gap in the window, this must have been horrific to deal with. Thank you for letting us know, we have noted it down for maintenance to have a look at the 3 millimetre gap.

We're sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us, we wish you well on your onwards travel.
