“Very good food and service, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

My husband and I ate here recently. We'd booked a table and when we arrived just before 8.30 it wasn't ready, however we were offered a table outside which we took and I was glad as it was really noisy and busy inside - which is part of the feel however I really liked being outside and people-watching near the Ivy.
Our waiter was very attentive - not arrogant as some have commented about the waitstaff - and helpful. The menu was adequate though not extensive. I had gnocchi for entree and my husband had the mussels, both of which were delicious, and the mussels were a good size portion. For main my husband had beef and I had a mixed plate of duck confit, pork belly, saucisson and beans which sounds odd but was a really nice mix of flavours. No room for dessert. We had a beautiful French Pinot Gris with the meal
I think it was a lovely meal - not outstanding but the overall experience was very good. It's pricey but that's Sydney for you.

“Merely average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

As much as this restaurant tries to hold itself out as an exceptional restaurant in Sydney, the weak menu and poor quality keeps this restaurant from reaching its potential. Located amongst the Merivale establishments, it is in prime real estate to be an exceptional experience for any diner. The service was very good, attentive waiters without being too in your face. They knew the menu, though that would not have been hard considering how basic and bland it was. Nice cosy atmosphere was set up by warm lighting, and the tables were close together without it feeling claustrophobic. Generally a good set up. What let this restaurant down was the food. Bland, uncreative and simply ordinary. For a supposed french restaurant, the flavours were simply too plain, eating the food almost made you think you were wasting your valuable time.

“Cold rainy Monday outside but warm & inviting inside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Even though Felix is only a short walk across Hyde Park for us, the rain came down in such sheets that we took a taxi. From a wet miserable early evening outside, we walked into a delightful (nearly full) restaurant with a wall to wall choice of wines from around the world.

Felix has developed an atmosphere that belies its age as it has not been around that long! It has this real home feel upon entry and staff service is always there just before you like to ask for it. "Attentive without hovering" just sharp!

As very regular travellers to France (on our way again for 6 weeks tomorrow) this restaurant with its French style fit out and service levels is the best example of what French can do in Australia and was an excellent last evening in Sydney before we are back again in South France.

We had oysters (cold without any toppings) the lamb rack, medium rare/rare and the plate was not just for looks! This was a nice meal with side of vegetables as part of it. The desert of Profiteroles was too much for me after a bottle of beautiful (of-course French) Pinot and my wife ended up with my portion of the ice cream that was part of the desert.

Everything about this place asks you to go back and become a regular. To be able to say that about a restaurant in Sydney is a real admiration to the high standards of food AND service.

“very good and reliable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Returned to Felix recently for an early dinner
Once again very good service although why ( a small minority) of the staff have to be so arrogant puzzles me - perhaps they think it is required if working at a"French " restaurant
The restaurant is large and its size rather destroys the bistro feel but it is comfortable and well laid out
Menu is varied and food as was the case with our last visit was delicious and beautifully presented
Wine list is huge and expensive
No complaints and would return again

“Faux pas!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

My wife and I went to Felix last night after seeing the 2 hour line-up for Mr. Wong. Although it looked very busy, we were seated right away after requesting an outside table. Very noisy inside. Our server was excellent. Very personable. We ordered the rib-eye for two. Came out after about 25 to 30 minutes. It was swimming in its own juices which is a major faux pas for beef. It clearly had not been resting properly before being cut and served. Meat was tough and not very flavourful. The accompanying potatoes (pomme de Neuf) were lukewarm. Although atmosphere and our server were great, not coming back.
