“Interesting Chinese cusine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

We came because it's Neil Perry's Chinese restaurant. The food was delicate and the waitress were willing to tell you more about every dish served.

It's not cheap, but the taste and feel is authentic with some twist. It's good.

“Ok for people not used to spicy food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

thought the place was ok. Atmosphere was the standout.

Food just wasn't for me. I eat a lot of spicy Sichuan food in other places, so was expecting good things from this. But it's more like a crossover between asian and australian.

You can eat much better meals at authentic asian places for about a tenth the price if you know where to go. Although you wont get the nice service and atmosphere.

“An experience but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Saturday night dinner when the Navy Review was on, a pretty full house but comfortable. A dark space, vaguely mysterious.

A cocktail to start, waitress appeared a bit harried.

Entre one was "Numbing Prawns", pretty unpleasant actually, the pepper numbs and also affects the flavours of any wine you may be drinking. By the way the wine list is very good!

The Quail entrée was yummy, lots of flavours, all good.

Main courses: The Leatherjacket presents at the table very well, apparently a bowl full of fiery chillies, which get unceremonially dumped out to expose the fish, a good balance of silky fish and warm spices. The second dish was a pork and cashew dish, once again heavy on the chillies in the presentation but no explosive hear, tasty. The wait staff explained the dishes quite well.

Its a place I would recommend people try, but we probably wont return.

“Great for both social & intimate dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

We ate here on a Saturday night, it was the 2nd time I'd been here. The waiters are really good at helping you decide what to pick from the menu & how much to order. The food was really good, my favourite was the 'hot & numbing duck'. The deserts are great too, I felt the serving size of 1 desert was large enough to share between 2 people. Decent wine list & good recommendations from wait staff.
Great restaurant for a romantic dinner or a group of people. I quite like the sultry lighting of the restaurant & the background music was enjoyable too.
The bar upstairs is great for pre-dinner drinks & has a nice vibe to it.

“Amazing food...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We enjoyed a Friday night dinner for our Anniversary at Spice Temple and were certainly not disappointed. Upon arrival we enjoyed cocktails at the bar (& noticed Neil Perry sitting and enjoying his dinner too!). The setting is quite dark but very intimate. The menu as the name suggests has a kick to it but our wonderful waitress helped ensure we had a good balance of small dishes to enjoy throughout our dining journey. Food & service was excellent and the interesting menu left me wanting to come back. Priced as you would expect for a restaurant of the calibre but great value for money. On the way out, we popped upstairs to Rockpool Bar & grill for a takeaway parcel of Salted Caramel - yum!
