“Value if you know what to expect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

DO stay here if you:
- don't mind stairs (no lift)
- want somewhere clean - room and bathroom were spotless
- have earplugs - middle of the city - it's noisy outside and walls are pretty thin
- want a good location - two mins to Wynyard station, 3 min walk to circular quay, 4 min walk to QVB
- didn't pay the full rate - a deal via expedia etc makes it value.

DON'T stay here if you:
- are hoping this is the 4 seasons, but just really cheap. It's not.
- like hanging out in your hotel room for hours - it's tiny and there's not much atmosphere
- want to veg out and watch telly - it only gets a couple of channels
- expect 5 star service - pleasant enough, but this is a 2.5 star place, not 5.

Hope that helps!

Room Tip: Any - just take earplugs - your heart will love the stairs.

Having read a few reviews about this lodge, we specifically requested a room on the lower levels, but were given a room on the top floor anyway. My mum, who is almost 60, had difficulty climbing the stairs and now has leg pain which hasn't settled. The TV reception was poor but we managed to get a few Foxtel channels. Location is great, and the kitchen is quite handy.

The TV did not work properly. Most likely because the room was wired with low end cable. Only about 6 channels worked properly. They advertised cable TV, but if you are a TV buff then you will be very disapointed. The bed took up most of the room and there was very little space to walk around. The shower also at times had cold water. The room was fairly clean, but this place is poorly maintained. The staff were nice and friendly.

I was told if the fire alarm goes off because using the shower then they would bill me. Not good customer service since it is a flaw in their build code. I think the Sydney Fire department needs to pay them a visit and force them to come up to building code. This is not the customers problem.

Had to take 4 flights of stairs to our room - had a window that was only 1'x1' in size and you could not see out of it. Tiny tiny room - plus steam was a problem when you take a hot shower - notes that if the fire alarms were to go off the customer would be billed for the charge - poor ventilation.

Reception could not tell you anything about the city, buses, attractions, etc. No conceirge or business center. Even local calls were charged at high rates. The room was not clean - hair in sheets, towels, bathroom, carpet, etc.

Terrible smells from long term tenants that would cook - you couldn't get the smell out of your room b/c you couldn't open a window. The mattress was very old (had stains and so did the pillows) and the mattress springs were visible under the sheets - completely uncomfortable.

No alarm clocks, hair dryers, extra linens/towels, no wash clothes, etc.

I was ready to leave Sydney after this visit.

The room was clean and comfortable and excellent value for city centre location. The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. We even had an email after booking to let us know they had no lifts and our room was on the top floor!

I stayed here because of its excellent location near the trains and downtown shopping.
I was able to easily get myself there, on my own, from the airport.
I then bought a weekly pass that gave me rides on the trains, buses, and even ferries.
This hotel was close to all connections.
My first challenge was to find it...it has an unobtrusive entrance right on the street.
When you find the door, you will look up a long narrow staircase.
At the top is the front desk and a family style kitchen and lounge area.
There is NO ELEVATOR but the staff is very helpful with luggage.
I would use it again, especially when travel funds are more limited.
The rooms are clean and have TV and internet.

The price is in US$ not Australian that was a shock.
The picture of the room was taken with a wide angle, it was so small demanded a change of room refused, demanded money back they stated they would charge for 3 nights.
Air con is switched off so they save money,
Ended up buying a fan.
Never ever again

Room Tip: Go to another hotel do not pay in advance
