I have stayed at this hotel a few times now and will likely stay again. I choose this hotel when I have a very short stay in Sydney and when I can get a room at a sale price. I stay here because of the location, close to central station (my ageing parents can easily walk - one pushing a wheelchair - the distance to the hotel from the train), close to Chinatown, buses at the front of the hotel and plenty of restaurant choices nearby.
The rooms are small but functional. Every room I have stayed in looks into the building at other rooms and I often keep the curtains closed as you can see in very easily from other rooms. The beds are fairly comfortable and I usually have a reasonable nights sleep. If you need a work space in your room or just want to spread out, these rooms don't really allow for it. The decor is a bit tired but the rooms have always been clean. My parents always request a disability access room and this is more spacious in the bedroom and bathroom areas, as you would expect. The wheelchair easily gets in and out and there is space to store it in the room and still move around - they always seem happy enough with the room.
With so many great restaurants in the area, I have never eaten in the actual hotel restaurant, although a few times I have eaten at the bar which comes from the same kitchen and the food is reasonable pub food and well priced. The breakfast seems overpriced and I tend to eat breakfast at a local cafe instead.
Generally I have found the staff helpful and friendly. You can store luggage if you need to, but there is a small charge for each bag. I very regularly use this storage service.
Look for rooms on sale, and room away from the elevators is better, quieter, less noise and passing...
