We took the wildlife tour.
we saw this tour advertised through some of the usual resellers such as Viator, and with the help of the Sydney forum tracked it down to these guys.
We were looking for something different to do in Sydney post New Years fireworks having done most of the usual attarctions in the past. I booked from the UK, had a few problems with the website, and rang Courtney in Australia to book, very friendly very helpful all sorted no problem. Pick up from our hotel was prompt if not slightly early, the signwriting on the transport is quite subtle, so you need to be on the ball to spot it, but Cliff did a great job of rounding everyone up. as it was a busy time of year, though great apologies our tour was full at 10 people, we had one Swedish family of four, four of the quietest American young men Ive ever come across (hangovers?) and us a couple. Reason I mention this is because you are creeping up on wildlife, you dont want any idiots in the tour or they will scare it all away, our tour was great and we all got on really well.
Our tour was led by Cliff.
Cliff is a tour de force and we liked him a lot. He is though completely bonkers, they really should get him to do a TV reality show. For those that know think Paul Whitehouse as Dave Nice (Smashie and Nicey) with a smattering of David Bellamy, all meant in the nicest possible way.
More to the point, he found all of the wildlife as promised apart from Emu. And he worked very hard at it.
Transport is by a beefed up SUV/4WD type minivan thing, quite comfortable no issues.
You travel 1.5 hours out of Sydney to Berrima (on the Canberra road) toilet breaks no problem.
You really do need stout walking shoes, its a very uneven gravely track and bumpy fields, and as you will be out in the full sun a hat and sunscreen is essential. Although its best to take drinks, there was water and juice supplied from the van.
Tea and cake in Berrima then off to look at the river, although its always too early so no sightings. Then off to a farm to look for Koalas, which we saw after a desperate hunt by Cliff. Setting is idylic by a forested lake. Loads of photo oppotunities. Then back to the pub for dinner. Although we spent a while pre choosing what we would like, you are reliant on what the pub has left and its specials, so dont spend too long agonising as chances are they might not have it. Food was excellent, pub staff very friendly no issues at all. Cliff made sure we were all looked after.
Then it was back to the river to see duck billed platypuss feeding, they are hard to photograph, take a polarising filter if you have a DSLR (i didnt and wished I had). Then back to the farm to see Kangaroo/Walleroo in the fields, managed to get quite close. The field also has lots of Wombats, who work on the priciple of "if I stand really still perhaps they will all go away" , which makes for great photography. Then it was back to the pub to look for Possums, which we saw, be aware the powerfull torches you are given (as its now pitch black) attract a lot of insects!! wife not so keen on holding the torch!
Then its back in the van for the drive back to Sydney, be prepared for a late finish gone midnight.
I would have no hesitation on recommending this tour, or Cliff, to anyone who has the time in sydney, it was a great day out.
In the end we saw: - Water Dragons, Parakeets, Koala, Wombat, Walleroo/Kangeroo, duck billed platypus, big possums, small possums - Brilliant
