In West Sri Lanka at Palm Village Hotel on Columbo road in a village called Uzwetakeiyawa right in tge beach. Nice hotels however rooms are basic and prone to a dampness odour! Staff could not be more helpful and pleasant, if you have come to relax or chill out this would be the place for you. We were disappointed that there is not any kind of supermarket or bar anywhere in the immediate vicinity however a 30 min drive in a taxi will get you to Nagombo - Don't stay in the town area ask taxi driver to be taken to the beachside of Nagombo here you will find a lovely long wide flat beach and a string of bars and restaurants in particular the Serendip and the Rodeo bar :) This of course is not to everyones taste but we found it great for a dew drinks, some good banter and alot of friendly smiling people of all nationalities.
I mentioned taxi drivers! Well competition is fierce for your business and prices are negotiable. There is Stdney who works out of the hotel, he tends to take you where he wants to go! I would advise you to go out to the back of the hotel onto tge beach where you will find Ceaser or Sam who will also offer good deals. We are heading off with Sam to Columbo today and a guy called Mohammed who we met in Nogumbo is taking us on a 3 day trip to the Sigayira and Kandy area on Monday - fingers crossed!
