“Decent enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2006

Stayed here for one night, nothing to complain about. Apartments are nice and modern, respectable bathrooms, reasonable size, and having a balcony was nice. Room wasn't ready for us until 3pm but to be fair it was New Year's Day.

Broadband internet access always a plus.

As this is an apartment hotel the services on offer don't compare to a similar standard hotel, no real room service (although there's plenty of stuff available in the surrounding area), and the lack of a gym and pool wouldn't go over too well if I was staying longer, but all in all, for a short stay, I'm not complaining.

I would have extreme difficulty in thinking of anything good to say bout this hotel except maybe that it's position near darling harbour is quite nice.

we stayed in this hotel last christams and were greatly dissapointed. On arrival we had to ring the reception to get them to come and open the doors, as they were on security locking systems due to people using the hotel as a throughway, and having crime problems also.

When we eventually got a room, it was filthy the cooker was uncleaned, as were the fridge and bed sheets had what appeared to be blood on. We changed to a different room which was equally poor, the third room was their "premier" suite, (the one used in the borchures at the time) it was very little better than the others however due to having just got of a 24 hour flight we settled for it. The room was "cleaned" daily, however we had to go out and purchase our own cleaning products before we were prepared to place anything in the fridge that we wanted to consume. The air conditioning system did not work and was often too hot. There was only one two seater sofa in our 4 bed room and this was blocking the door to the balcony.

The restaurant on the top floor only serves breakfast ( which is not included in the price) on one occasion we decided to try it for a breakfast, and were very dissapointed, the food was being brought on trolleys from another hotel, and was cold when it arrived!! the cereal and bread were stal, and the cost for four people $60 AUD!!!

We had pre booked to stay here for a second time on our return from a week in New Zealand, however transfered to a different hotel in the group after countless hours spent negotiating with the manager(s). BEd sheets very rarely clean, cleaning by maids very limited. carpets and furniture tired and dirty.

all in all a very dissapointing hotel, and an expensive one compared to alternatives also. no carparking or restaurant. avoid if at all possible!! there are much better options in australia and sydney.

Great Location but….

We stayed in a studio apart for five nights. The location great- bus stop is at the doorstep, Central, just two blocks away, Paddy's/China town a block away- everything nearby.

But…

When we booked we were told that a king size bed for two and a convertible sofa bed for third person will be available but when we arrived we saw the sofa bed was just a sofa-tattered and torn at the ends and can't convert or fold out to become a bed! It was difficult to manage with the sofa.

The kitchen is very basic with a hot plate and a microwave in a cramped little place with no utensils. Two utensils arrived only after we complained. U can't manage any cooking except making some coffee. We were told the one bedroom apts have bigger kitchen but at a higher price.

Cleaning, replacement of towels, soaps are done everyday but expect the maids knocking the doors for cleanup before you get out in the morning.

If you are particular about a central place stay her otherwise choose another one. It is a bit pricey for the place and the amenities.

We arrived at the hotel in the evening about 9pm, after it had been locked up for the night. There was nobody on reception so we had to wait for a guest to exit before we could get in.

As there were no staff on reception, we eventually located a phone and rang for an operator. My husband then had to disappear to another hotel up the road to collect our card key.

The room was not the one we had booked (it was small and had no cooking facilities). We had to argue to be assigned a new room the next day, but this was a huge hassle which involved repacking our cases and getting them between the floors.

One of the three lifts was out of order for the whole fortnight we were here. One of the others repeatedly got stuck on the 10th floor. Unfortunately this lift would keep turning up, but nobody wanted to get in it. No other lifts would turn up while the faulty one was ready to give you a ride, so we had to jump in, swipe our card, send it up and jump out again before the doors closed.

We got stuck in one lift with a group of chinese people who spoke no English. When I used the telephone, expecting to get through to reception, I got through to a voice who asked me which city I was in. The line got cut off so I had to phone again and repeat the whole problem (including spelling my name for the operator - why?)

Our cardkey was de-activated about halfway through our stay. This was due to a mistake on the reception desk, but it meant we couldn't get into our room. This happened twice, and we had to go to the hotel up the road to have the key sorted out.

Dreadful hotel, no stairs, malfunctioning lifts. Avoid it.

Our recent stay was just for one night which was one night too many. The problems started from just booking with this hotel! I booked two studio suites then rang hotel direct to check booking to be told that no, I had one 2 bedroom suite. After much back and forth via phone calls and emails I was assured that all was ok but upon checking in was back to the original problem which reception wanted to charge me extra for to rectify their mistake. The bathroom was very mouldy, the beds were hard and uncomfortable, the breakfast was particularly awful. Cold overcooked eggs that were like rubber, cold hard bacon, cold baked beans, fruit and the juices, hot water for coffee and tea had run out. We were seated for breakfast at 9.30am and not told that the breakfast ended at 10am so when we asked for some juice and hot water to make tea it we were abruptly told at 9.58am that it was too late and they had been too busy anyhow to restock these items. Then the 3 lifts were down to one as the power had some sort of problem. One lift in a hotel with over 150 suites was a nightmare. I was stuck in the lowest basement for 25 minutes with no phone to let anyone know I was there and no way out, pretty scary. Finally someone came and let me out through 3 flights of stairs up to a fire escape door which was all locked up, thank goodness there wasnt a fire as well. We nearly missed our plane as we couldnt get our luggage from the storage room in the basement out due to this problem and got to the airport with only 12 minutes to spare! Travel to Sydney on a regular basis but will never stay here again it was the worse hotel I have stayed in in Sydney in 15 years!

  • Liked — Its location is very good-very central and backs onto Chinatown which is great for food
  • Disliked — The mess up with the booking, he food was awful, mould in the bathroom, uncomfortable bed

We had a great time, we had a 3 night stay for 3 adults in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. We paid £260 which we thought was very good, i doubt that you would get anything for that price in London, New york or Paris !! The apartment was very clean, very comty beds, the bathrooms were good, with good showers ( i place showers as high importance!.)Tea , coffee & milk were all re stocked daily. The only downside was that the view was dire. We faced a horrible grotty building about 10 feet from our balconies. So there was little point in having 2 balconies as it was too grim & dark to sit outside, even though it was very sunny & warm. But hey, we were in Sydney, we were out from 0900am until very late so actually spent little time in the apartment. For those who moaned about carpet stains and poor views, i advise them to get out more ! The location was brilliant, 5 mins walk to darling harbour. We did walk to circular quay once, it took about 40 mins, i dont know why we walked as the bus stop is outside the apartment block and took less than 10 minutes !! George st, where the apartments are, is great for shopping. Loads of nice shops & department stores. The buffet breakfast was good, costs $13.50 if you pre book the day before or $17.00 on the day, its seems a lot at first but really thats about £7 ( or the same price as a stale sandwich & coffee at Heathrow !)OK so we were there for 3 days only, it was ideal. For those who went for 2 weeks and didnt like it, then may be stick with a Holiday Inn, you know the format and exactly what you would get. We,ve stayed in far worse places before and paid twice the price for the privilage too. Would stay there again, no worries !!

Looking at the photos of the apartments we were looking forward to our 2 week holiday, but these photos show a balcony which are based right at the top of the building. We were allocated a room on the ground floor at the back, the room was not very clean, and looked on to a brick wall with peeling paint. The bedroom faced the office and no privacy. The outside was full of cigarette butts on the floor.
We were told to move us we would have to wait til 2pm and would still get charged for the night before even though we had been in the room 10 minutes.

We were moved to the 7th floor facing the street, an improvement but the noise kept you awake most the night. The service was good some days and not others, our bath was not cleaned for a few days and I was told we had to ask if we wanted it doing.

It spoilt what was a great holiday.
