“Resort has potential just needs a little TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2009

We found the resort a wonderful place to stay and most of the staff were very friendly and helpful and the resort is in a great location, close to the city and the beach on your doorstep.
I chose the resort because of the facilities and services provided which greatly contributed to making our holiday enjoyable, great pools, restaurant and the cocktails were way too easy to drink.
We used a babysitting service recommended by the resort, very convenient and the kids club was great.
I was however dissappointed with the standard of our room. So if cleanliness is a deal breaker for you I would suggest you stay else where.
We also had a villa close to one of the pools which can be a bit noisy late at night of a weekend, guests weren't asked to leave until after midnight.
The spa treatment was great but making an appointment proved difficult after leaving several messages and making reception aware I hadn't received a return phone call for 3 days I finally got an appoinment.

We stayed here as part of a big group attending a wedding at the resort in March 09. All up most of us were pretty happy with the rooms, apart from a few complaints about the villas not being that clean. Overall the resort has great facilities for all ages, and the rooms are set out in a way to not give the impression that it is a huge resort with lots of other people around. The only real complaint is of the staff at the check in desk, they were all pretty much hopeless and appeared very disinterested in helping with anything, and at times a bit rude. Staff in the restaurant, bar and at the wedding reception were good, just check in staff TERRIBLE.

We stayed for one night in a hotel room. The resort has great potential but just needs a little updating. Our room was obviously dated and had a mouldy bathroom. The doona had no cover on it and there were a few spiders in the room. However, the beach out the front is lovely and there are some great areas to entertain small children in the resort grounds. The restaurant is FANTASTIC, our meals were great and the service was superb so this made up for the other disappointing factors.

We stayed here with our 3 month old daughter and my parents in march this year for two nights. Our daughter was able to stay for free and we all shared a 2bdr villa. It was 2 storey with the bedrooms upstairs. 2 full bathrooms upstairs and a 3rd toilet downstairs. Full laundry.

The resort itself is like something in fiji. Meandering paths, palm trees very peaceful. The pools are great. My fiance and my father both had a great time with the waterslide. Not just for kids.

The beach out the front is lovely. It is a surf beach with quite decent waves most of the time.

We would definately stay here again.

We have just returned from 14 days in a two storey unit no 82 and have had a
wonderful break !! The pool areas are incredibly good and the resort is spread out
over several acres and has a really relaxed feel ! We saw goannas , water dragons
and bush turkeys wandering around the grounds which really gave the kids a thrill.
BBQ areas are brilliant and the whole place is on the beach with a great 6 km Ocean
front walk over the headland which we did each day. I think some of the rooms are
becoming due for upgrade soon and are individually owned . We were unhappy with
our first room and after consulting reception were allocated a 2nd room which was
much better.

The Service was generally very good to excellent. We recieved a golf buggy ride to
dinner at the restaurant and the boys all were given free meals (Tuesday night special).
This was superb and brilliant food at Finz !!

If you are after 5 star accomodation in a clinical highrise this one is not for you !!

If you want a great family holiday where Mum , Dad and all the kids go down the
waterslides , swim at the pools and the beach, see some wildlife, go on a nature walk,
and have great times together in a sensational coastal resort this is the one.

Coffs Harbour has heaps to offer familys and for was a refreshing change from the Gold
Coast !!! We will be back !!!

Arrived after booking the accomodation with Wotif to be told that they had no record of my booking. After around 20 mins with phone calls to wotif etc they finally found my booking there, apparently Aanuka had not recieved it. Lucky enough the hotel had a spare room so we were eventually checked in. Complex is huge as others have mentioned, and the few occasions we could get a car park in the complex, it was a 5 min walk through to the room - our room to the reception area would have been nearly a 10 min walk.

We had booked the standard hotel room, and was fairly underwhelmed. The best thing about the entire stay was the King sized bed had excellent linen and was very comfortable. Otherwise hotel and room was fairly average.
The Room - Noisy wall mounted box style air conditioner, have never stayed in a hotel of this 'quality' with one of these 80s style noisy air conditioners. TV was mounted so low on a table that you couldn't see it from the bed. Bathroom was tired, mould in the shower grout, and water leaked ALL over the floor when you used the shower. There wasn't a plug in the room that fitted either the sink or the bath - handy !
The facilities - The hotel had a large conference on, and basically EVERY single carpark was full and you had to park on the street, clearly no where near enough carparks for the amount of accomodation. Had a spa at the main pool complex, and the amount of floating foreign matter in there was a little disturbing.

Hotel had wireless internet available but it was VERY expensive - $13 for 2 hours - some of the $60 motor inns in town had it for free !

Final complaint was the buffet breakfast - on the final day arrived at 9.50 or so when it ran to 10.30, and there were no pancakes or hash browns left and they simply couldn't be bothered to replenish them - there was still over 10 people still eating and arriving.

Sadly Coffs used to be a place with really high accomodation standards - it was back in the 80s but they have let all these places sit for all those years and not spend a cent on them to bring them up to a standard that we expect these days, very disappointing on the whole.

My husband, myself and our 2 children ages 5 and 6 stayed at Breakfree Aanuka beach for 8 days. Our room was lovely, very neat and clean. the service was simple but effective. Our kids particularly enjoyed the kids club which is very reasonable priced with lots of great activities for the little ones. We set out to have a relaxing break without hassles and that is what we got! I would recommend the resort to families sick of the Gold Coast, who want a beach and pool and not much else. I have recommended this resort to many people as it is fabulous.
