Owner description: Come to the Mint, where every single Australian coin in the pockets of millions of Australians is made. While wandering through the Mint's observation gallery you can look into the coin production factory and marvel at Titan, one of our great family of robots who help out with all the heavy lifting. Spend some time in the theatrette where a video will take you behind the scenes to explain the fascinating process of making coins. Check out the rare and historically significant coins on show from the National Coin Collection, which is held in the vaults of the Mint. Mint your own collectable coin and browse the Mint Coin Shop where you can find great gifts, mementos of your visit or even start your own collection!

“Loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We were here just after Christmas so unfortunately the mint wasn't in action but there was still plenty to see and learn. Even the kids (aged 8 and 11) thought it was a good place to visit and enjoyed making their own coin. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting and while you could spend hours reading all the information on display, we squeezed this in over about 45 minutes in between other activities.

“How we make money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

This is a very interesting place to visit to see just how we make new coins, totally fascinating you can even stamp your own coin, there is a lot of interesting displays from the past and interesting coinage even some forgeries to look at, it is amazing to see just how clean the coin area needs to be, there is no entry charge and it has a small cafe too, you can easily see it in an hour if time is short

“Good but just a short visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Great gift ideas and some interesting history but an hour or 2 is probably enough with no much for kids to get interested in.

“Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Good to visit if you have a spare hour or two. Lots of old and current currencies on display as well as some irregular coins. You are able to see the workers sorting money and proofing coins as well as the robotic arms moving containers of coins. Worth visiting if you have time.
