Just came back from my 4th stay at Canberra Rex. I have rated my stay this time "average", only because their generous parking space - the major reason why I have chosen to stay at Canberra Rex - has had to be reduced due to the construction that's been going on for quite some time. Easy access to a parking space is very important to me as I drive between the hotel and my clients' sites. I hope Canberra Rex can somehow come up with a larger parking area in future.
Other facilities and my feedbacks are as follows:
Location - It is about 20~25 minutes on foot (brisk walk) into the city centre along Northbourne Avenue. For me the distance is not an issue as I have a car with me when I travel to Canberra. And perhaps for the fitness conscious, the route may be a good option for a walk/run.
Room - tv/desk, bathroom are little dated although that's not an issue for me.
As one of the reviewers has commented, the bed is comfortable and I got a good night sleep. I was out during the day so I didn't notice any noise issue from the construction site next door.
In the bathroom, though, the flush in the toilet is very generous and it flushes out A LOT OF water, almost feels like a bidet!
The water pressure in the shower was adequate, but the ceiling is a little low and the shower rose is installed accordingly (low) so if you are a tall person, you might find it challenging to adjust the angle of the water.
There is no mini-bar provided in the refrigerator, which may be a good thing as you can buy your own drinks from outside and keep them in there. Dickson Shopping Center is only a few minutes drive.
The restaurant - I had buffet breakfast. You get hot/cold food items. The replenishment was fast and efficient.
Staff - the staff members I came across were, as always, friendley and attentive, so although I have given "3 stars = average" to the hotel, I would be happy to give 5 stars to the staff members.
Value for money - good. I only paid $135 bed & breakfast so it is a very good price.
Overall, I was satisfied with what was inside the hotel - the room/breakfast & staff, so big thanks to the management for this.
But as mentioned earlier, only because parking is an important factor for me, very sadly I may have to regard Canberra Rex as possibly my 2nd choice for accommodation in future...
