Just spent 2 nights in the Pavilion Suite at the Rydges Capital Hill Canberra.
First off I must say that I was impressed with the size & layout of this suite, its vast...Do's not feel you’re in a regular pokey hotel room. This suite is located on the 3rd floor (top floor) N/W corner of the building. It's split into several areas. An entrance hall way, lounge room, kitchen, bedroom, ensuite & bathroom. It has several windows, which let in plenty of light.
It's rather well appointed the kitchen area has all you would need if you wanted to cook yourself (something we might do next time - see below..), ensuite/dressing room & large bathroom with twin basins, good sized spa tub & large shower with plenty of water pressure. Also there's a second toilet, located near the entrance. There are 2 good sized tv's one in the lounge & one in the bedroom.
As for furnishings, there’s a lot....2 seater sofa, large coffee table, 4 armchairs, desk with executive chair, dining table which can seat 8. Bedroom has a king-size Rydges Dreambed, which was ok. Plus all the other usual furnishings you would expect. There are 3 phones, so not far to go to make a call.
The staff in general are pleasant & nice to deal with.
That’s the pluses, now for the minuses... :(
First off the air conditioning in this hotel hardly seems to work if not at all, especially at night. If I wanted to sleep uncomfortably, I could have gone camping. This is my 3rd visit to this hotel & the a/c has been an issue every time. Last time we had to leave the balcony door open. I suspect the chiller’s are turned off in the night, as the a/c units blow air, but it’s not cooling. ( Yes, I have told the staff about this on my previous visits, I didn't bother this time..) I know it would be a large cost to retrofit each room with its own a/c unit, but I think there could be improvements made to the current system.
I was informed that this suite had been renovated by the website "Our NEWLY REFURBISHED Pavilion Suite" & also by phone when I asked. Based on my previous visits this do's not seem the case. It needs a repaint, the armchairs had wear/dirt marks on the arms & the carpet looks the same old fair, we noticed some wear. The rest of furniture/fittings looked out dated too.
The ensuite, which has a large floor to ceiling wardrobe & 3 large doors. These doors required an almost herculean effort to open them as there are no bearings for them to roll on.
The bathroom needs a revamp, it looks 1980's. Also the hairdryer is placed to the extreme right hand side of the mirrors, adjacent to the toilet. As I'm a lefty, it was difficult to use.
Room service. The first night as we weren't very hungry we ordered the beef burgers, these were nice. For the next morning we ordered the full breakfast, it was barely warm, the toast was not toasted & the eggs ( we both ordered scrambled ) were very runny. I must admit, scrambled eggs from all hotels seem to be runny, why?? On my previous visits the in-room breakfasts were much better. Next time we might cook breakfast ourselves...
In summing up, we did have a nice time during our stay at this hotel, but it could have been much better if not for the few things I pointed out above.
Get one of the larger rooms & good luck with the air conditioning.

Very disappointing that the air-conditioning was not working properly, I’m confused as when I went to check the Pavilion Suite it was working fine??? Perhaps the circuit breaker tripped, it’s a few weeks ago now so hard for me to say. Please if this ever happens again make sure you let me know, I’m here and more than happy to sort it out. That particular room has 3 units which have been replaced this year so it should work fine.

Regarding the refurbishment, to be clear we replaced carpet, curtains, bed heads, bedside tables, TV Cabinets and repainted behind the new bed head – I take your point regarding more paining which we’re scheduling now. We did not replace Lounges and the Beds and desks were replaced a few years ago.
I agree with most of your other comments (runny eggs, breakfast not hot enough) and will follow up. The bathroom while not refurbished is marble, has separate shower and large spa bath and the photos on our website recent and accurate.
Thanks for the comprehensive feedback, always helpful and PLEASE let us know if you have another issue with the Air Conditioning.
