“Clean & neat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was neat, clean & tidy. The block appears dated on the outside but our room had been renovated. The bed was firm but comfy with an electric blanket & extra blankets which would be handy in winter. The kitchen was simple but well appointed with full electric stove, dishwasher & front loading washing machine/dryer. The bathroom was spotless but lacked somewhere to put your bits & bobs. The location is very handy between Parliament House & Manuka & driving around is quite easy.

We had a 2 bedroom appartment and these are sited behind the main complex. You have to drive round the block to access them. It was roomy, comfortable but slightly 'jaded'. A plus was a great Samsung washer and dryer. Staff at reception were very helpful and attentive. Location is great, between Manuka and the eating strip of Giles Street, in a quiet suburb. There was a coffee pod machine which was a nice touch. The appartment was clearly an investment property in a complex managed by the main hotel, so at night we had noisy revellers coming home.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

We were in Canberra in July with cold nights and warmer days. We stayed in a two bedroom appartment on the second floor. There is no lift, only stairs. We are a family of 5, two adults and three children. For the children there was two single beds and a rollaway. The rollaway would have had to been set up in the lounge room as there was not enough room in the bedroom. Fortunately we had brought from home an inflatable camping mattress which fit snuggly in the room.

The kitchen had a dishwasher, a full sized fridge, an oven, a coffee machine, a microwave and then the usual kettle, toaster etc.... The kitchen is a good size with plenty of room to move. Near the rear of the appartment is a laundry with a front loader and clothes dryer and the toilet was in here as well. The bathroom was nothing to rave about, with only a shower but the water pressure and heat were all good.

There was plenty of blankets and spare pillows, we didn't use the electric blankets, but the heating was on for most of our visit and it worked well. There is only a television in the lounge room, so it was a bit of a race to see who turned to their shows first - kids or grown ups.

The kitchen overlooked a small grassed courtyard with BBQ facilites and picnic tables. As we were here with a group of people, the kids tended to play soccer in the afternoon and rode their scooters round the parking area as we were in a dead end parking area, so no through traffic. The main doors to the foyer banged shut so a little annoying when young 20s are staying in the appartments below. And their voices travelled when enjoying a get together one evening.

The furniture was all very basic and all brown, so rather drab looking. The man of the house was not impressed on arrival, but by the end of the week agreed it served its purpose and was fine.

No free wifi, but the rate package was perfect for my needs, so no complaints there.

Manuka shops are only a short distance away, with a service station and Coles and many eateries. I didn't think it was as great as the staff made it out to be. We drove to other areas to eat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road.

Hello Woodys5,

Thank you for staying with us and for the very detailed feedback.

We are delighted that you and your kids had enjoyable time. We would love to see your photos taken in the hotel while playing in the backyard.

It's also great to know that you took advantage of our location to the best shopping and eating village Manuka.

It's a bit pity that the noise in the downstair apartment made up an annoyed evening. It's noted that this is not a popular problems of the apartments.

Again, thank you for your feedback. We look forward to your coming back with your kids soon.

Best wishes,

Dorothy

This so called 4 star hotel ( and I use that term loosely) was portrayed on the Internet as freshly renovated. Well I would hate to see what it looked like before. We stayed in a two bedroom appartment. The only good thing about it was the couch, which was good because I had to sleep on it as my bed was horrible. The air con didn't work but according to the manager we didn't know how to use it. The electric blankets on all four beds didn't work, but again according to the moronic manager they weren't plugged in! Pretty sure I know how to check if something is plugged in! I would never recommend this horrible establishment to anyone and I will be contacting wotif and who ever else I can to have their rating reduced because to call it 4 stars is a joke!

Forrest Hotel And Apartments will always be special to us as this is the first place we stayed when migrating to Canberra, and we stayed for good 3 weeks. We booked a one bedroom apartment which was quite spacious and furnished with all amenities. It looked out on a quite street on one side and a small garden on the other. The was a lounge room with a big black leather couch on one corner facing a big LCD screen. On the other side was the kitchen furnished with a cook-top with grill, refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee machine, a pop up toaster and an electric kettle. There was a supply of all necessary utensils in stainless steel and a slow cooker. Though I did miss a girdle which prevented me from making my eggs and pancakes. It also had a dishwasher and a washing machine on one side. There was also a small dining table with 3 chairs. The bedroom was comparatively small with a queen bed with electric blankets to keep you warm. There were open shelves on one side to keep your stuff. The reverse air-conditioning kept the place warm in the cold month of June-July. There was also an additional small heater in the bedroom but the air-conditioner was good enough for the entire apartment. The bathroom was good and spacious too. The housekeeping arrived once a week to clean and refurbish. The only thing I didn't like were the two portraits form the National Portrait Gallery that hung in the lounge and the bedroom which were not going with the entire ambiance. Maybe they can have something more personal and warm.

Forest is located in the affluent south Canberra and is close to the parliament house and other important government offices. The classy Manuka shops along with a Coles, were a 10 minute walk from the apartment. And if you want to go to the city, you have route 6 bus passing through which gets you to the city in less then 15 minutes.

All in all it was a very nice and warm place and did make us feel at home. Will highly recommend for people who are looking for a non interfering, quite and central place to stay for a long duration.

All in all a solid place. The apartments have two good size bedrooms with beds that are comfortable (not super). Kitchen with pod style coffee machine and lounge/dining with led TV. Bathroom useable but don't expect marble fixtures.

Big apartment for $146 per night. Good value and not too bad.

Overnight stay - central to most features (japanese Embassy, War Memorial, etc) - convenient to reach on National Circuit whichever direction you are coming from - easier if you have GPS - Canberra signs are profuse but at times difficult to follow - typical older style Motel building - rooms clean and well serviced - with some cooking facilities - convenient walk to nearby shops and restaurants
