“family getaway.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

We recently spent 2 nights here at the Breakfree Canberra in a 2 bedroom apartment. When we walked into our apartment we found that we had been upgraded to a 3 bedroom apartment, so that was nice.
We were on the 9th floor overlooking the lake so our view was just lovely, looking out into the Parliamentary circle and the lake.
The location was great for us to walk to the lake and we visited Floriade which was nice to walk around. We found it easy walking into the city where there were various restaurants. We had breakfast across the road which was a bit pricy but had a really nice waitress who d=gave us blankets as we had to sit outside in 10 degree weather, much appreciated.
The following day we rode around the lake which was great. We turned left after we got off the over pass and my husband said that riding that half was the easiest as the other half went away from the lake and involved some hills. You can always come back over the bridge for those not wanting to ride the whole course which took my husband and my eldest son approximately 2 1/2 hours. I went with my younger son and came back over the bridge which was approximately 1 1/2 hours worth of easy riding. There was places to stop off and rest all around the ride to get something to eat or drink.
The apartment had a great view but some thing were quite lacking. Both showers had there head nozzle way to low so that all members of our family had to bend to rinse shampoo from our hair and some of the taps were quite hard to turn on and then once on gushed out with water.
the ensuite had a massive bath.
Everything was in the apartment that you needed but as we were only there for 3 days we didn't use the laundry or cooking facilities.
The boys used the pool which was nice but the pool cleaner was left in the pool and there was quite a few kids in there making it quite awkward for them to all swim around.
The front reception staff were friendly and helpful and having free secure underground parking was great.
Lifts worked well.
There was a bit of noise from the traffic below.

Overall we all enjoyed our stay and would probably stay here again as the negatives weren't really that bad, sitting on the balcony and enjoying the view made up for them.

Room Tip: the lake view rooms had a awesome view, great location for walking and riding.

I've stayed here a few times and would definitely stay again. The only drawback is the road noise which I think is worse on the lower levels. Internally, I have always found the soundproofing between apartments to be very good.

But put that aside and you would be hard pressed to find anything better.

Serviced and self contained apartments, I would always go for a Lakeside one. They are clean, are well appointed with all appliances including a washing machine. Tea, coffee and milk and dishwashing powder are replaced every day. The beds are comfortable and the towels are thick and absorbent. There is also secure parking under the building.

The location is very central and within walking distance of the city. There are some cafes across the road - one which has a small convenience store attached. Supermarkets require a drive.

Reception staff are very friendly and extremely helpful.

Room Tip: I would ask for one of the higher levels to try and minimise the road noise. The lakeside is best if...

First time at break free Capitol towers- I choose acton for being near to ANU, plus easy walk across the lake to cultural precinct , and 10mins walk to city shops.
Self contained apartments, but with the advantage of very friendly helpful reception staff, gourmet deli/cafe across road for provisions , breakfast or brunch.
Comfortable beds; and great "room service" (5 local takeaways that deliver to one's room)- can recommend Chinese orchid,
would stay here again

Room Tip: Higher up floors better

Well there was 4 of us staying and we got up graded to Lake view room.
The staff are really helpful and the apartment was very spacious and well furnished.
The only thing I think needs attention is the main bathroom the ceiling is very low for someone tall.
But would recommend to anyone for a stay here.
Great location.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms and we had the 16th floor great views.

Despite great views, a spacious apartment and a good position I felt strangely let down by the Capital Towers. Only one lift was working and this led to lengthy delays moving about. We started having to plan for the delays. I felt sorry for the permanent tenants as the lift 'upgrade' had already been got on for over 3 months. The gym was okay but I tried the spa bath three times and it never worked despite me mentioning it to reception. The building is old, with narrow corridors and locks still operated by old fashioned keys. I would go back again if I knew both lifts were working.

We are currently staying at Breakfree Capital Tower Canberra. The rooms are spacious and our lake view room has beautiful views over Canberra. A perfect location for a few days exploring the national capital. Reasonable prices and the staff are friendly and helpful. Yvette and Dylan in particular couldn't do enough for us. We have stayed here before and had positive experiences every time.

Room Tip: Go for a lake view room. There is also some road noise so go for a high floor.

OK this is not going to be a rousing review unfortunately. From a cribbed corridor smelling of old meals we found our rooms. I've seen more furnishings in a prison cell. Some of the furniture was only upright because it was leaning at a rakish angle on the walls and all of the furniture looked like worn mismatched castoffs. But then the whole building is all pillars and strangely laid out rooms. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with friends on the 6th floor facing the lake ... if you looked carefully through the motorways and traffic you could see water. The aircon was, politely, quaint but we did eventually find the fan switch -- but you could inspect the aircon dirt-encrusted workings through a prominent and convenient full length door in the loungeroom. Kids would have been into that little space with all its machinery. Not happy obviously, too expensive even had it been free.

Room Tip: Avoid the 6th floor, face the lake and go as high as you can.
