Have just had 3 nights at the York. The finer points of housekeeping let this establishment down.
I had to pull a plug of hairs out of the bathroom sink "YUK". The bedside table was covered in dust along with the bedside light and TV remote. The TV didn't work so maybe that is why it was dusty, no one used it!! The dishbrush in the kitchen has seen better days the bristles were flattened. Also the crockery had a greasy feel so we had to wash up before we could use any of the plates, cups, glasses and cutlery. The bathroom is dated and the grout has developed a fair bit of mould. The walls in the bedroom were scuffed spoling an otherwise pleasant room.
We weren't impressed each evening with the smell of cigarettes coming into the room. Covering the gap under the door seemed to help. Saturday night was a bit noisey with people running up and down stairs. It seemed to go on for hours.
On our last morning we could hear the people in the next room showering for a very long time and it probably explained why we had very little hot water for our showers.
On the plus side the bed was a standout, very comfortable. The reception staff were pleasant. The location of The York is exceptional being close to restaurants in Kingston and also a short stroll to even more restaurants and shops at Manuka. A short walk to the Sunday Markets at the Old Bus Depot were a delight.
