Fantastic day. Awesome exhibits and layout. Great research centre. You really do need most of the day to visit this place.

“More than just a memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

This is a must see, for history buffs and as a tribute to all the servicemen and women in all wars. It is well curated and interesting on all levels, from kids to oldies.

“Fabulous Exhibition !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

As a bit of a history buff it was a ' must see' attraction for my husband & I. We were in awe of this magnificent building. There is free underground parking. We arrived in time to be able to join a guided tour taken by Eugene, who had served in the Air Force for 30 years so he was very knowledgeable. We started at the Roll of Remembrance where the names of all Australians who had given their lives for their Country are listed over 102,000. At one end is the Hall of Memory with the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier, very beautiful . As we walked along someone played the Last Post - very moving. We had intended to stay for a couple of hours but there is so much to see at the War Memorial, from Gallipoli to Afghanistan, we ended up staying most of the day. Thankfully there is a cafe for refreshments ! Although the World War I exhibit is closed at the moment, 2014 is the 100th Anniversary, it didn't take away from the whole experience. The Sculpture Garden is worth a walk through, some very interesting statues.Well done Australia - you have done your Service men & women proud !
