“Just okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2015 NEW

I expected more. There were some great paintings but the Aboriginal art area was disappointing, compared with other galleries. Not many impressionists. There seemed to be not enough of art, it was smaller than expected. The souvenir shop was not great, specially compared with the one at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney, which is far superior. Very few things to buy in Canberra.

“One of my favourite places in Canberra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2015 NEW

Always great exhibitions and a good place to go for afternoon tea. We visit several times a year and always see something that we have never seen before. A feast for the visual sense.

The intensity of light will take your breath away. A wonderful exhibition that is worth a visit to Canberra.

“Amazing James Turrell Exhibition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2015 NEW

I had read about this exhibition in the airline magazine while travelling to Canberra so had limited knowledge of Turrell's works. The NGA is one of my favourite places to visit in Canberra having seen some superb exhibits on previous occasions. This one lived up to the high standard of what the NGA offers. The exhibition brings together light, projection pieces, holograms, and prints and is like nothing I've seen before. Don't miss it,

“NGA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2015 NEW

As well as the free permanent collection there is usually an exhibition for which a fee is required. Often these special exhibitions are not shown in any other location in Australia.
The more recently added Indigenous Galleries are spectacular. The Sculpture Garden is in a native garden setting. An ideal spot for a picnic or wander down to the shores of Lake a Burley Griffin.
