“4 day stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Just returned from 4 evenings at the Mercure, whilst attending a conference at ANU. We chose the hotel because my wife wanted some place that had a bit more "personality" than some of the newer hotels that I'd been looking at. The staff were warm and welcoming, the breakfast (included in our deal) was quite good and the hotel itself was well maintained and we liked our room which had an unusual set-up, for a hotel room: a lounge and kitchenette downstairs and a bedroom/bathroom loft upstairs. The bathroom looked a lot newer than the rest of the room, and the whole set-up was very conducive to a relaxed stay with the extra room downstairs. However, I would note that the bed area was a little tight, and the bathroom was very close to the bed, so there wasn't a great deal of privacy. Housekeeping did an excellent job each day and we enjoyed the hotel atmosphere and proximity to the city (Civic) centre - about 10 minutes down the road. The Mercure certainly met all our needs at what we felt was a fair price (free outdoor parking was also included) and we'd happily return.

although of historical interest, this hotel was not up to advertised 4 star standard. No lift, and very small bathrooms. There was a mix up with our booking. The grouting in the shower needed a scrub.
The bed was great and it is in an ideal situation to easily access Canberrra attractions

Thank you for staying at our hotel on your trip to Canberra and for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry to hear that standard room was not ideal for your stay at the hotel. Due to the Heritage listing for, that part of the hotel, we are unable to put a lift in place. We do have superior rooms, which are serviced by a lift, available. On your next visit please let us know and we can show them to you. I hope we can welcome you back to Mercure on your next visit to Canberra. Regards, Daryll

Built in 1927 as a symbol of the prosperous and decadent times, the Mercure has lost nothing of its old world charm. Well appointed rooms that are warm, clean and spacious. There's plenty of parking, a bar and restaurant on site which is only a couple of minutes from the War Memorial.

Quietly located 10 minutes from town this hotel has the best of everything. Only drawback is there is no lift to the first floor.

I loved my stay at the Mercure and will certainly return in the future for a longer stay.
