“Very good - comfortable bed and room, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2014

This is a very good hotel well located and with friendly and helpful staff. The room was very pleasant with big windows and the bed extremely comfortable. I wished I have looked over the park. The breakfast was good and I especially appreciated the gluten-free options and the opportunity to make some fresh juice. Being a Saturday night there was some music coming from somewhere around the hotel but I popped in my earplugs!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the park

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit to Canberra. It is pleasing to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found our staff to be friendly and helpful. I apologise for the noise disruption you may have experienced coming from the Casino next to the hotel, we are currently in discussions with the Casino operators to ensure that disturbance to our hotel guests is minimised moving forward. We hope to welcome you back soon. Kind Regards, General Manager

I chose this hotel because it was walking distance to Canberra Centre where there is mall of shops. The lobby to the hotel is decent and wheelchair friendly. The room needs a bit of updating in terms of colours overall but decent enough. But for the price it tags itself on I would prefer the white square tiles in the bathroom to be updated. They look like circa 1980s. The sink stands alone on its own but at least there is space for you to put your toiletry bags. I find the bed being placed facing the window rather weird when you are facing an office building opposite. No doubt the windows are tinted and reflective so in the day, office people opposite cannot see in, but what about at night? Well, there are shades for you to pull down, one opaque and one translucent-good thought. There is working desk included with two phones in total and ample sockets for your laptop, ipad, etc. The room is well laid out except for the bed placement. I would like to have turned it against the wall, with the headrest onto one side of the wall, that is if I am a hotel room designer. Bed is very comfortable and not too hard nor too soft. The carpark is located in the basement as well. Access is through a third lift in the lobby. They can do better with the doors to the rooms, because it gives you the feeling of a dormitory or budget hotel. There is a link to the hotel casino, Casino Canberra. A relatively small casino compared to the one in Melbourne. Walk out of the hotel for five minutes and you will reach Canberra Centre with plenty of shops for that last minute shopping. A park called Glebe Park is at the corner of the hotel and I reckon this will be nice to chill out in summer time. Btw, at the point of stay and writing this review, road works are still ongoing in front, where my room faced. So you can hear the humming of the machines at around 8.30am onwards. Not good when you want to sleep in on a weekday.

Thank you for your recent review of our hotel, it is great to receive such detailed feedback. Thank you for your comments about our room design, our twin rooms (with two double beds) have a more conventional layout with the beds placed against the wall and this may be an option for a future stay. The roadworks outside the hotel are currently being undertaken by the local city council and are due to be completed in late October. Tank you again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future. Kind Regards, General Manager

I stayed here on business a couple of months ago. I have stayed in many hotels across Canberra and there are really only a few that are above average. The room itself was ok, bathroom a bit dated. Room service was ok and I didn't wait to long for it to arrive.
The only issue I had was the noise coming from I think the casino. I stayed over a Friday , Saturday night and the noise of men brawling and dance music had me up to two am both mornings.
I don't know whether I would stay here again , maybe if I was able to stay in a different part of the hotel?

Room Tip: Make sure you are well away from the casino

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit to Canberra. It is disappointing to hear of the disruption caused in the evenings from Casio patrons. We are currently in discussions with the Casino operators to ensure that disturbance to our hotel guests is minimised moving forward. We would certainly wish to welcome you back to our hotel when you next visit and can absolutely accommodate your request to be allocated a room away from the Casino. Kind Regards, General Manager

Stayed at the Crown Plaza which was very good. Request a park view room to get away from street noise. Breakfast was outstanding and is included in some rates along with daily drink/canapé coupon for the bar and water bottles in the room. You can join their hotel club (IHG) and get 3 GB free Internet daily. Long term guests get to stuff a laundry bag and they pick it up and return it clean for only $10.

So it's not the cheapest option but proximity to city center shopping and dining and the extras make it a good value.

Room Tip: Glebe park side rooms are quiet - top (4th floor)

Placed here by work check in was without issue. Advised wifi costs I unless you join the hotel rewards scheme which is free to do so. Wifi was hit and miss & needed to be renewed every 24 hours, with it down for a day during my stay. Rooms fine, generous desk, bed comfy, pillows super soft and bathroom clean with generic products & mostly soft towels. View of apartment opposite which was interesting at night. Quite and rarely heard neighbours. Breakfast decent with egg station and a pancake machine with coffee to order nice music too. Staff very good from reception to housekeeping. Gym manned & adequate though preferred walking the near by lake. Well positioned for shops & eateries. Only gripe aside from wifi was a 445am fire alert that proved to be false alarm, and the rotating entry door was slow & a pain. Wouldn't stay here on a holiday and it didn't have a special vacation feel too it but fine for business.

I hate to say this but anything Australian (Australians must be the friendliest people in the Western world), But this hotel was a bit of a disappointment. There is nothing wrong with the hotel and the staff is predictably quite friendly. However, the hotel seems virtually unchanged from when I last stayed here 8 to 10 years ago. Several pieces of furniture had stains on them. The furniture was made of plywood with only if the thinnest veneer of wood laminate on it. For me, the most important facility in any hotel is the exercise room. The Crowne Plaza's fitness facility was fairly state-of-the-art my first date here, but has aged considerably. Numerous machines like the treadmill either did not work or extremely noisy. The facilities were unheated at night and on weekends and it must been about 8 to 10°C - too chilly! As noted in other reviews, the location is excellent, you can walk to shopping and restaurants.

One of my business partners heard that the hotel is scheduled for renovations. I would ask about getting a renovated room.

This met our expectations as one of the Crowne Plaza chain but the staff and the general attention to detail made it stand out as a great place to stay in Canberra. The room was excellent, well equipped, faced the park and had ambiance and a relaxed, friendly feel about it - also clean and well equipped. The only draw back was the restaurant that lacks ambiance for dinner and whilst the staff were good, it needs something to make it more attractive for dinner - fine for breakfast. Secure parking was good and the easy walk to shops and restaurants as well as close to the roads to all the usual Canberra sites was a bonus.

Room Tip: Our room faced the park and was relaxing and would recommend it - recently updated and very comforta...
