“Miranda Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We arrived late one evening from Interstate but Mark the owner was waiting for us and showed us to our room. Our room was very clean and comfy and the breakfast room was really just a lovely friendly meeting place. The breakfast was very nice and well cooked by Mark's wife. Mark went out of his way to make sure everyone was happy and it was almost like staying with a big group of friends. It was very convenient to get in to town with a bus stop not more than 50 metres from the Lodge. Will definitely stay at Miranda Lodge if we go to Canberra again and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: We had a back room which was very quiet.

We don't normally stay in b&b so this was a first - and it won't be the last. Our room on the first floor was comfortable and clean with a nice hot shower. Traffic on Northbourne Avenue didn't bother us - Miranda Lodge is on a road that runs parallel to the main road so noise was tempered and not a problem. Mark is a great host who, after the first couple of minutes, makes you feel as though you've known him for years - very welcoming. It's great to have a full breakfast to start the day (included in the price). Miranda Lodge is five minutes walk from Dickson Shopping Centre where there are some nice coffee shops and restaurants, 15 mins from Tilleys cafe at Lyneham and only 4km from the city centre (in spite of good intentions we caught the bus there). After this experience we're now going to look for b&bs when we next go travelling. Overall exellent value.

Room Tip: Ask for back room or just bring earplugs if you're light sleeper but is you get an upstairs fro...

Canberra is an expensive city, and Miranda Lodge is brilliant value. I was there for a conference visit for 2 days and it was perfect. The rooms are a little old, but perfectly clean and the bed was comfortable and shower was great, there is a TV and fridge in the room and it was serviced daily. Mark, the host, is very friendly and welcoming. As others have commented, be aware that it is on a busy road, this was noticeable early in the morning but otherwise not a bother at all. It's easy to park behind the building or on the street in front. The breakfast was excellent - freshly cooked hot breakfast as well as cereal, toast etc. The location is good - a little way from the city (but very easy to get there), Dickson restaurant precinct is just down the road with a great variety of affordable dining options.

Room Tip: If you are worried about traffic noise ask for a room at the back.

Small hotel with a great location. A 10 min or less walk from Chinatown and many wonderful Asian restaurants. Mark and his wife do a fantastic job at making their customers feel welcome and their breakfast is one of a kind which is included with your stay. Great value

Stayed in a triple room at the back of the property. Was very quiet, comfy and pleasant. The room was warm and the shower was hot. The best part was the owner, he was friendly and very informative. As soon as we arrived we felt like we were old friends. The breakfast was a great start to the day. Plenty of cereal, toast, juice and coffee and the cooked breakfast was fantastic. The location is great. The property it self may not be 5 star but the experience was. Thank you Mark for a wonderful stay. We loved the Miranda.

Stayed in a twin bedroom, upstairs at the back of building. Even though on a main road; it was quiet & peaceful. Surprised at some reviews about noise as all know it's on main road. Bathroom was clean & heating was excellent! Central heating came on late afternoon about 5pm & the room heated up immediately. Very warm & comfy all through the day. The owners were lovely & engaging, really enjoyed their company. The breakfast included in the price was excellent! Plenty to choose from for a good solid start, cooked breakfast was lovely! Location is very good; a mere 5min walk to Dickson; supermarket, fast food joints & the best Asian eateries in Canberra. Thanks Mark for a great stay, will be back!!!

The location is good (although very noisy) and the host was nice. However, the place is very run down. Bed was not comfortable, there were no plates/bowls provided if you wanted to just have a bowl of cereal in your room. It was only just passable on cleanliness (big build up of mold in shower, flyscreen in bathroom was filthy as a few examples). Only half a roll of toilet paper provided and turned the room upside down trying to find another one, tv did not work very well, towels were not replaced when my room was serviced. Place really needs to be knocked down or renovated, overpriced for what you get.
