“Perfect Place Perfectly in Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Gary and Juan Carlos have created a lovely space to stay just a few hundred metres from the nearest beach.

Our room was very nicely designed in a modern white and dark wood colonial style. It also had a private terrace to the front where our breakfast was served.

Gary plays host and is very friendly and enthusiastic to help. Behind the scenes, Juan Carlos does a sterling job in the kitchen, producing some of the tastiest food we had during our visit to Brazil. Breakfast was top notch too.

There was plenty of choice of wonderful beaches nearby - and it wasn't rare for us to have the beach to ourselves.

One morning I saw Gary taking a pause on his way to bring us our breakfast. He plucked a bloom from a plant in the beautiful tropical garden and arranged it with great care on the tray until he was satisfied that it was perfectly in place.

"Perfectly in Place" - Play around with those three words a bit and you'll get a sense of Boipeba and the pousada Thanks guys - great stay.

We stayed here for a week in April, 2013 and had a truly amazing time. Gary and Juan Carlos were so welcoming that it was like staying with friends. Friends with great taste - the bungalows are simple, comfortable and stylishly decorated. The food is lovely with a substantial breakfast served on your terrace. There is also now a new small restaurant on site serving freshly prepared dinner for guests, with meat dishes in case you have had enough fish! The cocktails are brilliant. Gary is a great waiter and Juan Carlos a superb chef. Gary is a mine of local information and can advise on what trips to do and help organise things for you if Portugese is not your first language! Get here if you can you will love it. Remember though no ATM on the island and credit cards not popular.

A beautiful, different, inviting place to stay. One of the best posadas in Bahia. Gary is a great host and Juan Carlos is amazing in the kitchen. The breakfasts are out of this world and you have to try the ginger mojitos. Great location and picturesque posada. Very clean, very inviting.

A Mangueira was a wonderful, romantic place to spend 7 nights in Moreré. Gary and Juan Carlos are attentive hosts and genuinely friendly. They have a great sense of humor. The place is very well kept and tastefully decorated. The lush garden is full of birds of all species and there are also many chameleons. The breakfast served on the deck is a nice touch! I didn´t want to leave!

The only thing I would recommend is to avoid taking the boat tour in the middle of the day - the sun is dangerously hot. You of course have to take it at low tide, so it depends on when your stay lands, but try to insist on this with Gary.

And while you´re in Moreré, make sure you stop at Kátia´s restaurant, and also António´s (Brisa do Mar).

My partner and I stayed 5 days at Mangueira in mid-January 2012 and we had a wonderful time. Gary and Juan, the new owners, have recently renovated the three existing bungalow and built two new double ones with unassuming good taste and style. Because we booked a bit late in the season, we had to move rooms in our third day and we had the privilege of experiencing both older and new bungalows. They were both super comfortable and beautiful in their own specific ways. The rooms have some structural features in common; all have verandas with hammocks, a breakfast table and a lounging area; all are private, with beautiful views, ceiling fans, and gorgeous garden surroundings. But each has its own charm, you know you're in a place which the owners took pride to customise, not your cookie-cutter kind of room common in so many pousadas and hotels.
Breakfast is brought to your veranda every morning by a cheerful Gary and one of their local assistants. It's delicious and gets you set for a while until you're ready for a late lunch in one of the local restaurants in one of the beaches.
There is also a common kind of open varanda living-room-bar-dinner space where Gary and Juan serve what they call a selection of light dinner meals to wrap you up for the night. The atmosphere is cozy but made sophisticated with indirect lighting. You'll also find a bookshelf from which you can borrow a book in case you forget to bring one.
In short, the place is beautiful, comfortable, well-cared for, but the most special thing about Mangueira is Gary and Juan. They are helpful in a non-intrusive way, they are fun to talk to and they make you feel extremely welcomed. I would look forward to hear Gary approaching our veranda carrying a large breakfast tray. He was busy, but always had time to tell us about places to go, the beaches, the restaurants, or about a local story, the latest news, lighting up our morning. Juan, was also a delight to talk to while he prepared our caipirinhas before dinner at the bar.
It was a wonderful trip to the island and staying at Mangueira made it all even more romantic and special. We shall be back, hopefully sooner than later.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Pousada a Mangueira for four nights in November and had a truly fantastic time. The bungalow was very clean and comfortable and hammocks were perfect for relaxing and reading a book. Best of all were the helpful and conscientious owners and the delicious breakfasts that were prepared fresh every morning! If we could have stayed in paradise longer we certainly would have!

We stayed four nights in Pousada a Mangueira, which was fantastic. The hosts were welcoming, the bungalows very comfortable, the breakfast great, and Morere/Boipeba is superb.

During our stay we found out that the Pousada is recently under new ownership, which has completely refurbished the existing bungalows and built some new ones. As such, the Pousada is brand new and very comfortable. It has a wonderful bed and bathroom and a confortable verranda with hammock, lounge chair and breakfast table. All bungalows are located within a very nice large garden and have enough privacy.

Breakfast is served each morning on the verranda in the bungalow, which is a nice way to start the day. Juices are excellent and there is a wide-range of choice in terms of eggs. The Pousada also has a small bar and restaurant, where the owners prepare cocktails and small plates (pizza, salad, quiches, hamburgers, etc.) in the evening.

Morere itself is pittoresque with it's three/four restaurants and beachbars. It is small enough to avoid the real tourism that has already spoilt Boipeba city, though big enough to eat somewhere else each day. Some of the fish places are excellent in terms of quality. Just outside Morere, there are a number of small bungalow/camping complexes that get very crowded in high season, but this does not overflow too much into Morere itself.

The Pousada itself is about 100 meters from the beach by walk through the main street (ie. dirty road) of Morere. It is thus not on the beach itself. Furthermore, it needs to be said that some of the really great beaches of Boipeba (Cueira and Bainema), which needless to say do not have any Pousadas/hotels, are a 15 minutes walk away.

Staying here was a wonderful conclusion of our holidays and highly recommendable.
