“Wonderful Pousada”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

My partner and I stayed 5 days at Mangueira in mid-January 2012 and we had a wonderful time. Gary and Juan, the new owners, have recently renovated the three existing bungalow and built two new double ones with unassuming good taste and style. Because we booked a bit late in the season, we had to move rooms in our third day and we had the privilege of experiencing both older and new bungalows. They were both super comfortable and beautiful in their own specific ways. The rooms have some structural features in common; all have verandas with hammocks, a breakfast table and a lounging area; all are private, with beautiful views, ceiling fans, and gorgeous garden surroundings. But each has its own charm, you know you're in a place which the owners took pride to customise, not your cookie-cutter kind of room common in so many pousadas and hotels.
Breakfast is brought to your veranda every morning by a cheerful Gary and one of their local assistants. It's delicious and gets you set for a while until you're ready for a late lunch in one of the local restaurants in one of the beaches.
There is also a common kind of open varanda living-room-bar-dinner space where Gary and Juan serve what they call a selection of light dinner meals to wrap you up for the night. The atmosphere is cozy but made sophisticated with indirect lighting. You'll also find a bookshelf from which you can borrow a book in case you forget to bring one.
In short, the place is beautiful, comfortable, well-cared for, but the most special thing about Mangueira is Gary and Juan. They are helpful in a non-intrusive way, they are fun to talk to and they make you feel extremely welcomed. I would look forward to hear Gary approaching our veranda carrying a large breakfast tray. He was busy, but always had time to tell us about places to go, the beaches, the restaurants, or about a local story, the latest news, lighting up our morning. Juan, was also a delight to talk to while he prepared our caipirinhas before dinner at the bar.
It was a wonderful trip to the island and staying at Mangueira made it all even more romantic and special. We shall be back, hopefully sooner than later.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Pousada a Mangueira for four nights in November and had a truly fantastic time. The bungalow was very clean and comfortable and hammocks were perfect for relaxing and reading a book. Best of all were the helpful and conscientious owners and the delicious breakfasts that were prepared fresh every morning! If we could have stayed in paradise longer we certainly would have!

We stayed four nights in Pousada a Mangueira, which was fantastic. The hosts were welcoming, the bungalows very comfortable, the breakfast great, and Morere/Boipeba is superb.

During our stay we found out that the Pousada is recently under new ownership, which has completely refurbished the existing bungalows and built some new ones. As such, the Pousada is brand new and very comfortable. It has a wonderful bed and bathroom and a confortable verranda with hammock, lounge chair and breakfast table. All bungalows are located within a very nice large garden and have enough privacy.

Breakfast is served each morning on the verranda in the bungalow, which is a nice way to start the day. Juices are excellent and there is a wide-range of choice in terms of eggs. The Pousada also has a small bar and restaurant, where the owners prepare cocktails and small plates (pizza, salad, quiches, hamburgers, etc.) in the evening.

Morere itself is pittoresque with it's three/four restaurants and beachbars. It is small enough to avoid the real tourism that has already spoilt Boipeba city, though big enough to eat somewhere else each day. Some of the fish places are excellent in terms of quality. Just outside Morere, there are a number of small bungalow/camping complexes that get very crowded in high season, but this does not overflow too much into Morere itself.

The Pousada itself is about 100 meters from the beach by walk through the main street (ie. dirty road) of Morere. It is thus not on the beach itself. Furthermore, it needs to be said that some of the really great beaches of Boipeba (Cueira and Bainema), which needless to say do not have any Pousadas/hotels, are a 15 minutes walk away.

Staying here was a wonderful conclusion of our holidays and highly recommendable.

We have been there last summer and still enjoy the memory of our stay. Pousada a Mangueira is the quintessence of a paradise hideaway. One can be completely undisturbed by the world and enjoy the company of one's significant fellow traveler(s). The garden is habitat of some fascinating nature and breakfasts (I looked at some other reviews) are indeed legendary. This is just the cherry on top of what I found to be absolutely perfect holidays.

Morere and Pousada a Mangueira is one of those happy places you visualize in your head once back to the daily hectic of an overwhelming big city. Enjoy!

Our ten days at Pousada a Mangueira were definitely the most admirable days of our brasil trip.
The garden around the bungalows is very beautiful and well-kept. On our veranda we had total privacy and enjoyed very much to lay in our hammocks. Boipeba - and especially Morere - is predestinated for doing nothing and relaxing. The rest of your time you can spend with walks along the paradise beaches and caipirinhas in one of the pretty beach bars.

We thank again Gary and Juan for their great hospitableness and hope so much that one day we will come back to enjoy again the great breakfast and the peace of boipeba island.

We stayed in the Pousada a Mangueira for one week in November 2011. It was a great experience. The service offered by Gary (the new owner of the poussada) and his team was really excellent. The breakfast was very delicious and was served on the veranda of our bungalow. It included natural juices, eggs, joghurt, ..., and much more. The bungalow itself was very beautiful. It was cleaned every day. We 110% recommend this poussada!

Pousada a Mangueira is a b&b with a few small chalet-style buildings. Ours was clean and well-kept. Breakfasts are simple: eggs, cake (a Brazilian custom), juice, fruit, jam and bread with tea or coffee. The owners are a husband and wife duo. The wife was very involved in the day-to-day and, at times, overly interested in making sure our stay was okay. The husband seemed put out by fulfilling his previous offers, such as arranging tractors to Boipeba (the main arrival and departure point to the island). This left us with a sense of dissatisfaction in terms of customer service.
Morere itself is noisier than one would expect for a small fishing village, and the Pousada is right near the small town square. The few restaurants open in the off season serve up typical Brazilian fair, except the Sambura de Morere, which opened in August and is a cut above.

Please note that this review was posted in October 2011. Since November 2011, the Pousada has been under the management of the new owners, Gary and J. Carlos, and has been totally refurbished with the addition of new bungalows and a Restaurant/Bar.
