Abaquar Hostel sums up this beaut little island - relaxing, quiet and welcoming. Its located a few minutes from the main square and from there its a good walk to the 'best' beaches. Its not right in town, so its much more quieter than usual.

The hostel is well set out. There is a few dorm rooms and private rooms. Its not modern but its furnished with some neat outdoor furniture to lounge about in. A few more hammocks in the shade and it would be even better.

The dorm room was ok. It was small, but luckily I had it to myself for most of the time. However if it was fully booked it would be rather cramped. The ensuite was fine and served its purpose, the shower lacked hot water, but its tropical so there isn't really a need for it.

Breakfast is served daily from 8-10 (sometimes later if there is a party going on and its agreed upon by all). The breakfast here is different from most hostels which are generally a 'buffet' style. Here Fernanda and Peter serve you up a plate of food which can include fruit, cheese, eggs, cake, pancakes, and yoghurt. As well as the usual 'sucos'.

And lastly, the owners Peter and Fernanda (and their sidekicks) are extremely welcoming and helpful in every way possible. They really go out of their way to help and make sure your at home. By far some of the best owners I've met along my travels.

This is a great place to meet fellow travellers over a caipirinha or beer and then head to the beach the next day. Its relaxing and quiet, just what is needed after being in Morro.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the main house. Though the two outside dorms are fine, you will find in windy...

If you come to Boipeba, chances are you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place because that's what Boipeba is known for.
Abaquar is exactly that : on the edge of the (small) main village of the island, surrounded by trees and mangrove. Decorated with style (not your typical cheap-flashy hostel), nice garden, good breakfast, very clean rooms with new beds and nice views on the garden. The young owners are very friendly (but they are on site only part of the year).
I stayed there for one week early december. It's low season but for me it was perfect : relaxing atmosphere, friendly village, great beaches.
It's not a party hostel, more a relax-zen place but I've been told new year eve is crazy (like everywhere in Brazil).

Totally recommended ! (Boipeba and Abaquar hostel specifically).

I recommend the boat trip to the picisnas (eat good seafood on rafts while sitting in the water is fun) and even more the trip to Morere (south of the island) to go to the "Tropical" restaurant, (the shrimp Moqueca with bananas was the best I had in Brazil, and I had quite a lot, even is "top" restaurants).

(risos)

Me and my husband Pablo we stayed for 4 nights at the hostel Abaquar which is a very cozy, clean, organized, good service and wooded.
It has a communal kitchen, dining and utensils clean.
Peter and Fernanda (owners) are very responsive, attentive, careful capricious and are keen to feel at home. The Nat (Nature) is a dog happy and also very cute.
The beds are comfortable and well ventilated rooms.
The hostel offers breakfast to tell by the way is a DELICIOUS.
Near the hostel there are restaurants with typical Bahian toll plaza, motorboats and a maroon community.
I recommend to everyone.
They have a very Brazilian caipirinha made by a Belgian. (laughs)

Room Tip: double room it's very good

From the beginning we felt welcome and comfortable in this beautiful hostel. Fernanda and Peter are very nice people and always there to help. After 7 months traveling we felt at home, relaxing in the wonderful, big garden, playing with their cute dog and enjoying the time with other travelers. Often everybody cooked together and ate in the big common areas. The rooms are spacious and clean and the best thing is the awesome breakfast! Everyday Fernanda is making something different and special - chocolate cake, banana pancakes, savoury treats and a lot more! We originally planned to spend five days with them and ended up staying for two weeks! Thank you Peter and Fernanda for the good time and hopefully see you again!

Room Tip: there are nice dorms and also nice privates

First time in a hostel and when I realised I was staying there for 6 weeks it was mind blowing.. Loved every second I spent there!! A really special place that filled me in with such good energy, lovely people, very relaxing, waking up in the morning with birds singing and the sun shining, served with very nice breakfast and really good accomodations! The owners, Fernanda and Peter, have really good tips as well about the island and can pass you a very useful information about the whole village! It was a very nice experience for me and somewhere I'm surely going back again to stay in Boipeba!
