We visited this delightful tea room on our travels down the River Trent on our boat, having moored up beside Newark Town Lock. This is a proper, old-fashioned tea room that serves a wonderful selection of sandwiches, soups, paninis and cakes. I had the Cream Tea for One, which came with two sandwiches and a gorgeous, home-made scone with plenty of jam and clotted cream and fresh strawberries. My husband had a Herby Pannini filled with pepperoni and cheese. Both meals were delicious. The service was excellent and the staff really care about their customers. There is a little shaded garden outside, which affords a lovely view of the lock and the boats passing through. The tea room has been awarded a 5 Star Rating with the Food Standards Agency for Hygiene and this is backed up throughout, with a very high level of cleanliness, including the toilet. The whole experience was wonderful and can be highly recommended. The only down-side is that they don't take debit or credit cards - only cash. But don't let this put you off - there are plenty of cash machines within a short walk!
