“Cream Tea Delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We visited this delightful tea room on our travels down the River Trent on our boat, having moored up beside Newark Town Lock. This is a proper, old-fashioned tea room that serves a wonderful selection of sandwiches, soups, paninis and cakes. I had the Cream Tea for One, which came with two sandwiches and a gorgeous, home-made scone with plenty of jam and clotted cream and fresh strawberries. My husband had a Herby Pannini filled with pepperoni and cheese. Both meals were delicious. The service was excellent and the staff really care about their customers. There is a little shaded garden outside, which affords a lovely view of the lock and the boats passing through. The tea room has been awarded a 5 Star Rating with the Food Standards Agency for Hygiene and this is backed up throughout, with a very high level of cleanliness, including the toilet. The whole experience was wonderful and can be highly recommended. The only down-side is that they don't take debit or credit cards - only cash. But don't let this put you off - there are plenty of cash machines within a short walk!

“A Charming little stop off!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

We called in here after a walk along the river on a sunny. It's very unassuming nestled against the river and very much the converted front room but don't be deceived! This was a lovely experience. A great cuppa and cake and according to others in our party, the sandwiches were good too. Definitely worth calling in for something that really is home made!

“ice cream + clotted cream = ultimate indulgence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2011

I think the owners are from the west counry, hence their dish of ice cream + oodles of clotted cream = ultimate indulgence, and so satisfying. Great location too !

“Charming and relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2010

Tea rooms have almost disappeared, more's the pity. This one has survived for several years, so it must be doing something right. Try the cream tea - the cream is clotted, not squirted from a can, and the scones are fresh - possibly home made. Lovely location next the river. Charming waitresses.
