This B&B is situated very close to central Newark. Great first impressions when you walk up to the front door but I was slightly concerned over the busy main road out of the front. We did try to check in earlier as we were attending a wedding that day but we were told we couldnt check in any earlier than 2pm which was a bit of a shame as we had to leave Southwell minster straight after the ceremony to check in which meant we missed the photographs. The room was superior, exceptionally clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was very dark due to the windows having blinds and wooden shutters, which definitely helped me sleep. The road noise was apparent but not too bad. The breakfast was tasty and well cooked. The lady who runs the b&b was very caring when I said my husband was feeling a little worse for wear so she allowed me to take up tea and toast to him in bed! I would definitely recommend this boutique b&b to my family and friends.

Thank you for your lovely comments. It is a shame re the photos, although there is an eight hour window and you could have checked in at any time between 2pm-10pm. I really do try to accommodate all my guests where possible.

A lovely period house, well maintained and spotlessly clean. I was a little concerned about the road outside but the shutters at the bedroom windows blocked out the noise and the streetlights to ensure a great night's sleep. The breakfast was delicious, plentiful and well-cooked.

This would be a lovely place to stay at before a wedding, wedding prep in a fantastic setting, with all the comforts of home. What could be better?

Top class.

This was a really nice B & B, fitted out lovely and very well maintained. Check in isn't till about 1.30pm and we weren't allowed in any earlier. Check out is 9-9.30am which I found very early. We had a double room which was very small, and although nice, lacked somewhere to get ready (eg dresser) and mirrors to enable you to do hair/make-up. The double room has a double bed, which seemed remarkably small. Breakfast was lovely. I found the price of a double room quite expensive for a B & B when you could have got a lot more for the money in a hotel. Some of the king sized rooms had a separate bathroom which you had to get to by leaving your room so you could be seen going from your room to your bathroom although there was a curtain that could be pulled across.

Room Tip: I would definately recommend a king size room as you really couldn't swing a cat in the double.

I am very sorry to hear that you weren't totally happy with your stay.
There are in fact two mirrors in that bedroom, one in the bathroom and one on the wall in the bedroom. There is also a dressing table, albeit without a mirror. I will see to it that the mirror is transferred to the wall above the dressing table. Although this is the first time anyone has thought to mention it.

Regarding the check in/ check out times ( which are displayed on the website), check in is 2pm, but I did agree to to an earlier check in of 1.30pm as you were all going to a wedding later .Check out is 10.30am at the weekend and 9.30am during the week. You did have a later check out for a Monday and I did offer you use of the guest lounge, after you had vacated your rooms.
I do try to accommodate guest's requests as far as I am able, but we need this time to prepare the rooms and the rest of the house for the arrival of the next guests.

There is one room with a separate bathroom, this is on a separate floor to the other rooms and a can be made quite private , by utilising the curtain across the separate private landing.

I think for the quality of the rooms, furniture and breakfast, you would be hard pressed to find a hotel of similar standards for the same price.

I spend 4 nights at The Hollies in June. I only have good things to say. The home is charming and lovely, as is the host, Pamela. She was very knowledgable of the area and helped direct me me towards things to do and see when I asked. Breakfast was phenominal. The room was very comfortable and quiet, with everything I needed. The Hollies is located on a semi-well travelled road, but not noisy at all. It's in walking distance to the center of town, lots of places to shop and eat nearby. Bus station is a short walk, train station a little longer walk - but walkable. Good location, price, atmosphere, hospitality, comfort... everything. I want to stay there again sometime, and hope I will! :)

We had 2 rooms - a double and a family room. The decor was modern- traditional and very comfortable. Definately more up market than an average b&b which was reflected in the price. Really friendly owner and lovely breakfast. Parking is on the road at the side though.

Stayed for one night on business and was very impressed. A lovely early 19th century house that has been bought up to date with plenty of modern features but still retains the period style and feel.

Was made very welcome on arrival and was provided with details of restaurants and places of interest. My room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and a good night's sleep was had. Breakfast was spot on with lots of choice on the menu.

Would definitely stay again.
