“Short and sweet escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Had a short 2 night stay with Turi, away from the hustle and bustle of Singapore. Quiet and peaceful as our little vacation was over the weekdays. Best time to go I say! The emerald pool was sweet and it shimmers at night. It was a nice walk from the beach to the Island bar by the pier. The room, bathroom and service was excellent. TV with cable! Our room had a stairway up to the open air roof which had an amazing view! Food and Spa was very expensive though. But it is quite a distance to the city center so we didn't bother traveling out. There's a trail on the left side of the resort that leads to Turi's sister resort. Even though it rained quite a bit, our stay was still sweet and relaxing :)

Would like to compliment Manis! (Met her during breakfast at the restaurant) She helped us make arrangements for the traditional homemade banana cake (with chocolate rice). It's probably the best banana cake I've ever had. Thank you so much for your help!

My family purchased our short trip to Turi Beach Resort on Groupon which was a great deal for a two day, one night stay. We chose to stay from Friday to Saturday, and requested our two rooms be upgraded to the Tirta Premier Beachfront suites. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the front desk personnel and shown to our rooms. The rooms were spacious, had beautiful views of the pool and beach area, fairly equipped with the basics including a minibar fridge which was oddly empty, complimentary bottled water bottles, and electric kettle with instant coffee/teas, sugar, etc. The only glitches we encountered were that the fridge didn't chill very well, the vault didn't work which required a maintenance staff call to change the batteries, and the water heater needed to be adjusted as the shower wasn't getting hot when we first used it. We arrived in time for an early lunch which we had in the Taming Sari Café. It was the only restaurant open at the time. We ordered meals off the menu and aside from the over-salted Salmon Teriyaki my wife ordered, everything else was relatively ok in terms of taste and presentation. The service was very good, as our complaint over the salmon was quickly and politely taken care of.

Later in the early evening, we all took a walk along the beach, which was well kept and clean. We then took a walk on the 220m jetty which extends out beyond the resort, and the view from this vantage point was quite spectacular from all directions. It had rained earlier in the late afternoon, so there were still a few clouds lingering, and obstructing what I'm sure would've been an stunning sunset.

By dinner, my wife and I had the choice of two open restaurants: Taming Sari Café and Nogusaya Teppanyaki & Grill. We chose the buffet at TSC as it seemed to have a nice variety of dishes for the price. The live band that was performing was unexpectedly talented, and added a pleasant ambience to the evening. This time, the food quality was better than our lunch, and the service staff was once again quite attentive to everyone dining.

In the morning, we had the complimentary breakfast buffet. There was more than enough items to choose from, particularly with our picky little eaters. We requested a later checkout, as our ferry wasn't leaving until 4:30 that afternoon, however was only permitted to checkout at 1pm as the resort was fully-booked. We were then able to book an earlier ferry back to Singapore without any problem. Something to consider if you intend on making the most of that second day.

Overall, the service was exceptional in terms of the way we were treated by the staff at every touchpoint. We arrived at a less than peak period, so I assume when the resort is more crowded, the place comes more to life. That's always a bit of a double-edged sword, because when a resort that is too crowded isn't always fun, but one with only a few people seems to be unpopular or lacking a certain energy.

It's clear to me that Turi Beach Resort is the tale of two resorts: One which is starting to show its age after first opening 24 years ago, and the slightly newer resort, with its more updated architecture, and Zen-like styling. The thing I've learned about resorts, especially those at the size and scale of Turi, is that the continuous upkeep and operational challenges are huge, regardless of whether or not they stay booked all year round or seasonally. It can be an expensive proposition for a less than profitable resort to be able to pay for the numbers of personnel needed to keep every single detail like keeping insects to a minimum, landscaping pristinely groomed, and rooms/facilities in perfect working condition. Unfortunately this all weighs in on how a visitor views or rates their experience. And while our experience wasn't up to par with what we've experienced in the past at resorts in Bali, Phuket, or Boracay, I believe Turi has potential and lots of room for improvement. For now, I would caution visitors to manage their expectations if they are looking for something more than what they pay for. I can also honestly say that our family enjoyed our short stay, and would try it again, but perhaps when things are more finely tuned up.

Thank you very much for your detailed and extensive review… All your comments and insights are very valuable to us taking the time to share them amongst our staff and executives for correction and improvement…
We provide a minibar fridge with a minibar menu list of items that can be either ordered via room service or directly bought in the resort boutique shop…
The resort features three restaurants… Cinta Manis Indonesian restaurant menu is always available in Taming Sari Café All Day Dinning if Cinta Manis is closed.

We will continue upgrading and improving our services and facilities regardless of being in an open beachfront jungle setting.
If I can be of any assistance in the future to you or your network, please contact me at your convenience via antonio@nongsaresorts.com Cheers… Antonio

Bought the stay through deals.sg. As one should already expect, deals often comes cheap but with no frills. Any new request comes with a price. A request for a double bed means an additional fee of $25. A stay on Saturday also comes with additional cost.

After all the additional charges, the final reservation price isn't too far off from what we could possibly get if we were to make the bookings and arrangement ourselves.

Nice decent room. Wide and white. Sadly the room doesn't come with a bath tub. The chiller in the room is only sufficient to chill can drinks but could not fit in a 1.5L bottle. There were some ants crawling in the bathroom and I wonder where they come from.

There are only 2 restaurant in the resort. While the meals are pretty delicious, it comes with a price as high as what we get in a restaurant back home.

Sadly, the jetty and the pool with a bar are under renovation. Our staycation starts on a Saturday and the resort is packed with screaming teens. The pool was also packed with families. Peace came on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning where bulk of the people check-out of their rooms.

Late check out could only be extended till 1pm. As we were scheduled to board the 4pm ferry, we sat at the resort lobby after checking out till it's time to board the complimentary shuttle to the ferry terminal.

I must say the most amazing view in the entire resort is at the resort lobby. It being located at the top of the hill is above the tree canopy. With no trees obstructing the view, you get a panoramic view of the wide ocean.

Room Tip: Take units on that starts with '4' or '3'. They are rooms at the higher floor. Bette...

My wife and I recently visited for a quick 1-night stay.
One of the best trips of our lives.

Pros:

The room was part of a 2-room hut that opened up to a great view of the beach.
How great?
Our room was literally about 20 feet away!
We would wake up the next morning to the soft orange sunlight which made
it look like we were in a dream...

The room itself was cosy, but felt spacious thanks in no small part to the brilliant design.
Everything appeared to be new, including the washroom and shower areas.
And the soft colours really put you in a relaxing mood.

The beach was nice and clean,
with big natural rock formations you could climb up
during low-tide (it's fun, goddammit!)

We spent most of our time just walking by the beach,
and taking in the fresh sea air.

And since we were there during the off-peak season,
at times it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves...!

The Cinta Manis cafe was great!
The food was pretty good,
and the staff were so very friendly.

In fact, at one point after dinner,
we wanted to get some chocolate,
and the staff actually went through the trouble of
retrieving the key to the little shop below (we didn't know it closes at 5pm),
just so we could get it.

Though I can't remember names,
every single staff member we encountered exuded warmth and always with a smile on the face.

Cons:

Very good for a nice, relaxing weekend.
However, besides some jet skiing and banana boat rides,
there's nothing much to do.

This could be due to the off-peak season,
so there could be a lot more to do if you go at a different time.

That's pretty much it.

Highly-recommended, and we hope to return soon.

One of the best trips of our lives… we very much appreciates your introduction review line….
We will continue working on our facilities and services to be able to offer the same experience to all our guests…
Glad you discover how much fun is to walk through the rocks, corals and sand to discover the underwater-world during the low tide…
We estimate the launching of sunset cruising and night fishing in early August with the intention to increase the number of activities…
Thank you very much for your time as well as for sharing your experience with all of us… Cheers… Antonio via antonio@nongsaresorts.com

Hi TA , I have just come back from Turi Beach and I am very happy that this place still have the magnificent sunrise view. New wings of hotel is very nice. Food is still very expensive. But you can get better value food at their sister resort which is 10mins walk away on the board walk linking them by the sea. Food there is nice and price reasonable. Service is a bit slow though. Water sports is expensive but at least they have it at the doorstep. If you are looking for a place to relax and watch the sunrise and enjoy the pool and beach, then this is really a nice place.

Was greeted at the batam ferry terminal and directed to the transfer and all was good also when we were served welcome drink immediately upon arrival and they allowed us to check in immediately even though we were really early (must be low occupancy period as we dont see much ppl around).

Room was clean and spacious, but the aircon switch in our room was faulty and we couldn't adjust the temp so it got a little warm at night even with the fan on. Also, our friends had a fruit platter in each of their room but we didn't. Didn't bother asking for ours as the fruits was already black (so our friends didnt touch their fruits too).

Ordered dinner in-room and it was so-so. The keropok came soft and chewy. Breakfast is passable. Food aside, generally not bad a place and staff are friendly.

Booked the TIRTA PREMIER room through Groupon. Got a unit on a 2nd floor directly facing the beach. Access to beach is less than 20m. Great view. Room is spacious with two singles and a day bed. Tiles may be moldy (can't be help, this area is in the tropics, and humidity is high), but otherwise, everything else is clean. Service is great, with staff greeting you every now and then. Food wise, the price is reasonable and portion is good if you are ordering local cuisine. The Sat BBQ night is a great effort to bring guests together , with a slight exciting experience of lucky draw (except for the prize of a free BBQ on the following week-which all of us will definitely not able to make it... :-) ). The food however was invited by insects attracted by the spot lights that was set up to shine onto the food. Think need some zapper to rid the insects away. The beach is clean, and I do see the workers cleaning up the area. However the beach area at the left side of the resort unfortunately has broken glasses probably thrown by irresponsible guests. Low tide swim / snorkelling is a good experience for kids as they can see marine life. The jetty has a great view of the resort, but there were bees along the jetty, which was a frigthening experience. Overall, the place is rather great, with decent sports activities (not cheap), and a great swimming pool. The deck chairs need to be increased, and proposed to have some on the beach where we can order drinks and food while childeren have fun. We had a great 3 days 2 nights stay in Turi Beach and we will definitely want to go back there again.

Thank you very much for your kind and understanding feedback…
All our bbq dinner luck draw prizes are valid for three months… If you are not able to return to Turi Beach Resort during that period, please contact me directly via antonio@nongsaresorts.com and I will be glad to extend it for you…
A new set of led lights has been ordered to minimize the impact of insects in the outdoor buffets while we feature two large fire vases providing a more ethnic ambience while keeping insects away; at the same time we will inspect the jetty to find out if there is any bee hive or similar...
During the months of August and September we will increase the beachfront areas and clearly separate the water sport activities from the swimming areas to increase guest safety and comfort including additional beach front deck chairs…
Glad to have you back with us soon… cheers… Antonio
