“Best restaurant in Sam Roi Yod, Dophin Bay area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

After 6 trips to Dolphin Bay in the last 3 years, I know how hard it can be to find a decent restaurant where they also serve some quality wine.
Now I found it in Sala Bo, Oriental Beach Pearl Resort.
The Resort is located on the mainroad from PranBuri to Dolphin Bay, inland of the Sea View Condominiums.

The menu is a mix of Thai, International and Danish cuisine.
We have tried almost all their dishes and it is always made of fresh produce shopped daily on the local market.
I personally prefer dishes with seafood. Fish, Prawns, Lobster and Squids are all catched locally around dolphin Bay. That makes it so much fresher and very tasty.
Meat dishes such as Steaks and Fillet are the best imports from Australia and Argentina. Perfectly cooked every time and alway tender.
Their Club Sandwich is also worth to mention. Comes with all the right ingredients, served with perfecly cooked french fries.
They also offer cooking classes at the resort. I teended one last time I was there.
You go shopping to the local market with their chef (Tuk or Mr. Green) and later prepare the meal under their guidance. Dish is then served in the restaurant when finished. It was really fun and interresting to learn how Thai food is made. And your own cooked food tast ofcourse just great.

Restaurant is very clean and cozy, located on poolside of a big salt water pool. All enlighted nicely in the evening.
A quick look in the kitchen shows a fully modern kitchen, kept clean and with chefs who know how to manage it.
Restrooms are fully western standard and kept spotless.
Furniture is in general good standard, comfy chairs, ventilators above each table. There is an option to sit on 1st floor if you want to dine in more private sorroundings.
There is a bar where they can serve 20something great coctails at a price of 180 baht and half price during happy hour (between 4 and 6 PM).
If you are into Cognac and Whisky there is some room for improvement. They only had one brand of each when I was there, and they were both in the lower end. But OK, it is not a Michelin restaurant.
The overall eating experience was great.

The wine selction is one of its kind in Sam Roi Yod. Around 500 bottles are kept in a airconditioned glass wine cellar. French, Italian, Spanish Australian, US, Chilean and South African wines are kept here.
All the msut have Chantis, Barolos, Cote du Rhones, Riojas, Bordeaux, Bourgognes plus the new world wines where there.
Bottles are always served in a champagne cooler standing beside your table. It is then easy for you to keep the preferred temperature if it is red, white or champagne you are drinking when the ambient temperature is 30 C.
Glasses are cooled down for white wine and champagne when served.
Prices range from 1200 Baht and up for a bottle. By my experience that is not expensive at all on a good restaurant in Thailand. Imported wine is heavily taxed in Thailand as can be seen if you go to a supermarket like Tesco where prices start at around 500 baht a bottle.

Waiters still have a little to learn about etiquette at the table and around wine, but are always very friendly and try very hard to please you. Ask for anything and they will jump straigt away.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the number one restaurant south of Hua Hin.
I can see they constantly try to improve, by bringing in guest chefs from Europe and US to train the staff.
