Good points: The staff on reception were very helpful. The room was clean.
The rest: Don't be fooled by the word resort. THIS IS NO RESORT. We booked a superior and when we got to the cell we were disappointed. We mentioned this and was told that we had been upgraded to a deluxe. 2 windows overloooking the road no balcony. Lovely. To watch TV from bed you need binoculars. NO BAR after 8pm by the pool only. If you want to eat you have to book into the restaurant only. Cleaner was also a nightmare. The position of the hotel is not ideal. We were told at reception that if we wanted to use the beach to purchase a voucher from them for 2 sunbeds and a parasol for 13 euros. When we arrived at the beach we were given 2 deck chairs and we were told we had to sit in a certain part of the beach which was right near the bar and loud music. We said we wanted 2 sunbeds and had to pay another 10 euros. The next day we went straight to the beach without buying the voucher from reception and got 2 sunbeds for 6 euros each wherever we wanted to be on the beach. DON'T BUT THE VOUCHER. There is no where to eat or anywhere to get a drink in Calambrone. The nearest town is Tirrinia which is about 8 minutes on the bus (when it comes) or 35 minute walk along the main road. One evening we walked to town and my pizza was so big that we decided to take it back for our lunch the following day. So we left it on the side and when we returned to the room later found that the cleaner had taken it even though it was not in or near the bin. We mentioned this to the reception who said they would speak to the manager but heard nothing and had no lunch that day. The next morning we decided to go to Pisa. So we got ourselves ready with money etc all laid out on the side ready for our trip and left our room with the sign on the door saying PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB while we quickly went for breakfast. We returned to our room some 15 minutes later to find the cleaner in our room who then told us to come back in 5 minutes. We were not impressed and told her to get out as we had told her not to enter our room. So have no idea whether any of our personal stuff was touched or how much money was left. She had removed our towels so were unable to have a shower so just left. Didn't bother to tell reception as they had not reacted to the previous day's problems. SO DON'T LEAVE ANY VALUABLES AROUND EVEN IF YOU HAVE ASKED FOR THE CLEANER TO NOT ENTER.
You will need to hire a car as the bus comes along very infrequently (1 an hour if you are lucky). The inspectors on the public transport are like little Hitlers and are so rude and in your face that you actually feel threatened. We certainly do not treat our visitiors to the uk like this.
