“Good Hotel and lives up to its 3 stars, providing you get the right room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

We arrived early on the Saturday and we turned down the first two rooms offered to us. There was a large wedding taking place and we were told that the room allocated to us was in the main building and away from any noise from the wedding reception. However the room was poor and no outlook. They offered us a garden view room ground floor but again we declined as this was near to the wedding disco. The third room offered was on the second floor overlooking the grounds and was far better. Despite being told we could have problems with noise wwe are pleased to say we heard nothing. It was an excellent room and keeping with the Hotel ambience. The Reception staff were were very patient and helpful. We ate out in Romsey but had breakfast in the Hotel and this was very good. Overall a very good hotel and meets its 3 star rating, well located. We inspected the health facilities and these are very good and we would rate 4 star.

Room Tip: Ask for an Upper floor Garden view Room

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay, I was pleased we were able to find the right room for you, but offer you my apologies that the first room we offered you was not to your liking.

The views of our grounds are fantastic and it's unfortunate that not all rooms have these views, but the majority do offer views of either the front or rear lawns.

Yours sincerely

I find this a good hotel to stay in. It is clean has reasonably modern rooms. The genral restaurant and bar areas are very nice. The staff are friendly and whenever I have eaten in the restaurant the food is good. The only problems I have ever had have been not being able to get a table in the restaurant even though I was a resident in the Hotel and also the service can be a little slow at times. Hot buffet breakfast with lots of choice and good quality food. The leisure facilities are very good. There is a great medium sized gym and a nice sized pool which are all well serviced and well kept. It is set in lovely private grounds and I recommend this hotel as a place to stay for either business or pleasure. Ideally placed for an overnight stay before a cruise or ferry crossing.

Thank you for your comments, it sounds like you have become a regular guest of ours on the back of our facilities and customer care.

Our restaurant is extremely popular and I would always advise to book a table in advance, perhaps when making your booking direct with Sue our Reservationist at reservations@chilworth-manor.co.uk or upon check in at the Hotel.

We hope to welcome you back again soon.

With thanks

Have just stayed here with 10 girls, the staff could not of been nicer, they could not do enough for us. The spa is lovely, very clean and the treatments were all very good. Special thanks to the gym manager who made us feel very welcome. We booked a package that included spa, treatment and evening meal, which was amazing, all our party commented on how delicious the food was! The rooms are adaquate, maybe in need of a bit of new decoration but clean and tidy. The grounds of the hotel were kept very well, looked lovely. Overall it is fantastic value for money, I would definately stay here again!!

You loved it and we loved having you here!

Kris the Health Club Manager says your group were fantastic and a real pleasure to look after.

With 4 treatment rooms and a fantastic ozone cleansed pool area we are the ideal location for spa breaks in Southampton, and in a setting like ours its perfect for larger groups or couples.

Kris can't wait for you to come back again.

Once again with thanks

We stayed here as part of a break for Peppa Pig World - Paultons Park. On arrival reception were very nice, and helpful. Our room was very clean and tidy. The Reception staff asked if were eating with them at the hotel, and we said we would probably eat out, so she recommended a lovely family pub called the luzeborough inn good pub grub and would recommend to families that are staying at Chilworth Manor. Although it was disappointing that the swimming pool was not open to children in the week and only at weekends it didnt spoil our holiday, and there was two splash park areas at Paulton Park anyway which our daughter loved. On an evening we would sit on the terrace at the hotel, where our little girl made friends with some other children and they played quite happily. I have read other reviews which have not been all that great for families staying at this hotel, but we loved. The breakfast is very nice also, and has a good selection for everyone.

I'm thrilled you had such a great break with us, there's so much to do locally in addition to Peppa Pig World, we have Marwell Wildlife, Intech science complex, New Forest, West Quay shopping centre and Beaulieu Motor Museum to mention but a few.

I hope you'll be back soon.

Once again with thanks

I think there were 16 staying in this large hotel over the Christmas period. What a shame that such excellent catering was seemingly only appreciated by the many who live within motoring range. Lunch on the Christmas and Boxing Day was a very packed time -- but then the hoards melted away (unlike the heavy snow which daunted the idea of walks around the large grounds). Decor is tired and could do with a revamp but all the staff (local people bar one or two) were fluent in English which tends to make life easier. The chef and kitchen staff deserve top marks and hopefully good attendances for their quality output all year round ! Stay again ? If the atmosphere can be a bit more lively, most certainly ! A mounted stags head, of many points, is no substitute for good company when having a drink at the bar in the evening ! Perhaps a few days in good weather would throw a more 'sunny light' on one's feelings about the place. The food, especailly lunches, remains a fond memory. Reception staff merit special commendation fot cheerful, polite and helpful service. Given the snow, we failed to trek the short distance to the pool and gym.

It's been a while since Christmas has passed, but many thanks for your positive review.

Christmas Day and New Years Eve are a few of the events where our Head Chef can demonstrate his outstanding culinary expertise and really test his brigade. We have an excellent following locally and there's always a great atmosphere during these events.

The period between Christmas Day and New Years Eve can be a fairly quiet time at the Hotel.

Sincerely

I stayed here the night before a business meeting. The room price was low so I did not expect much and was not disappointed. The room was large but needed refurbishing really. Food in the restaurant was a real treat and reasonably priced. Conferences here are good, but the staff seem stressed and lacking at times. However a good set up apart from air con issues every now and then. Parking lots of around the grounds and free!

I'm glad you felt our food was a real treat and made use of our ample free parking and fabulous grounds.

We are still rolling out a re-decoration project in our bedrooms, and are 40% of the way threw this, so I'm sure at your next event you will see an improvement.

Sincerely

Arrived midafternoon checked in and began the expedition to our room due to the poor directions given to us by the unenthusiastic receptionist but it did help us discover the lovely bar area!! the corridors in the rear part of the hotel do look dated and could do with a lick of paint the smashed glass door was also very unattractive! Room was a good sized double lots of space bathroom let it down slightly not the best shower I’ve ever had again whole room could do with updating. Dinner included in our package was very nice but a bit fancy for my liking but that’s just my taste. After a good night’s sleep thanks to the blackout blinds (great idea!!) we dashed down for breakfast where we were greeted by the same fantastic manager from the night before who went and grabbed us papers why we waited to be seated!! breakfast was usual buffet style but very nice. went for a lovely walk in the woodland followed by a dip in the pool and a nice massage all very good. bar the receptionist all staff were fantastic especially in the Restaurant overall a good hotel but if i had paid all full prices for the services provided would of been a lot more critical the joy of a cheap package deal!!

Room Tip: got my package through www.spabreaks.com
