“Sunnybrae - stunning restaurant, tucked away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We booked Saturday lunch at Sunnybrae, after reading about it online. It's a cokkery school, which offers top notch five-course lunches on Saturdays and Sundays. It's tucked away in the middle of nowhere, on Cape Otway Road, and isn't an area we would normally frequent. So we tied it in with a trip to Cape Otway and the Great Ocean Road.

The ambience and food were both exquisite, and the service was impeccable. They use the best, freshest local produce, some of which they grow themselves. The menu is well-balanced and the portion sizes are perfect - we didn't feel we had over-indulged, partly because the courses are well-planned, spaced out, and not rich. One thing we did notice is that it's not particularly well-suited to vegetarians though - they do need to improve their vegetarian offerings. My husband ordered a risotto, which was disappointing (undercooked and tasteless. I think chefs sometimes assume vegetarians have no tastebuds!). Other than that though, the food and the setting were both lovely, and we felt it was good value, too.

“Great Lunch out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

I booked Sunnybrae for a Saturday lunch as part of a Girls weekend away. There were 9 of us and it was fabulous. The food, the service, the ambience. Everyone in the group loved it and we spoke about even bringing the other halves and coming again next year before the footy season starts! Take your time and enjoy, we certainly did.

“Terrific for a long slow meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Lunch is a proper event at Sunnybrae. People book and travel long distances to eat there (weekends only): and booking is essential. Five or six (lost count) inventive courses spread out across the afternoon, and guests are invited to wander round the garden before the mains.

It's a few weeks and a long-haul flight since we ate there, so details of what we ate are a little hazy, but it was all excellent, with a mix of salads making full use of the garden's produce, some more robust hungarian fare (game) and a good wine list.

A large and spacious dining room with friendly and attentive service make this the ideal place to meet up with friends and family for a big occasion or just because you feel like it.

“Pleasant Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Sunnybrae is the perfect restaurant on a cold winter's day. But on saying that, I think Sunnybrae is perfect on any weekend. It is only open at weekends for lunch. Di and her staff are such warm and welcoming folk. The 5 course degustation menu was absolutely delicious. This was my second visit in 5 weeks and the menu was different. Ingrid, our waitress, even remembered the wine we had from last time!! Top marks. It was lovely to be able to wander the extensive garden and vegie patches, halfway through lunch, accompanied by the friendly dogs. I would highly recommend a visit to Sunnybrae. Make an advanced booking though. A wonderful experience and a great way to spend a leisurely weekend afternoon. Thank You, Di, George and staff.

“A secret gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

We stumbled upon Sunnybrae having passed it countless times without realising. We were too late for a Sunday lunchtime booking, but they took our phone number anyway, just in case....we got lucky! A cancellation found four of us there for four hours on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon. What a gem! The restaurant was lovely, the staff freindly and informative and the food....was gorgeous, different, but gorgeous. Much of the food comes from their veggie garden (very envious) and the 5 courses kept us going all afternoon. We did have a walk around midway, which helped, but still very full when we left.

This is a fabulous place for a special 'foodie' experience with similarly minded friends, thank you George and all your crew. We could not have asked for more, and thank you to the table of four who cancelled!
