“Nice place, pretty good food but poor value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

My chicken schnitzel was nice (not fantastic but not average); but to give you an idea of the pricing, the base price is just under $23. Then you need to add $1.40 if you want it on a Sunday; and then another $2.50 if you want gravy = all up about $27.

Now you can call me tight but honestly, this is a pub; I don't accept this 'gastro pub' silliness...

What surprised me the most was that the place was full the whole time I was there. Good luck to them but not for me.

“Great ambience but ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

I can see why this place moves people to reminisce about the old country. It is an authentic 19th century country pub. Built in about 1870 it's what you would expect, just the sought of place to visit on a cold night, all blazing log fires, rustic fittings and simple traditional food.

The menu is pretty authentic country pub fare as one might expect. But the execution? I don't mind paying for food but frankly this was sad with the meanest portion of chips I've ever; and I do mean ever, been served. Some one should also let them in on the secret. Pies have pastry on the bottom and sides and crusts on top, they are not a bit of filo stuck on top of an earthenware pot. And another thing Steak and Kidney pies actually have steak in them.

Great potential, but needs to lift its game. I won't be going again.

“hard to find these lil pubs now days.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

give this a go. it's the place that is hidden away, the food is great, one of those place you can sit a chill, just watch the cops that patrol the area after a few drinks.

“Nice pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

Typical pub fare that is well cooked and hearty. Nice setting and prices typical of gastro-pubs. Unpretentious setting and historic building makes lunch here very pleasant.
