“You will truly never experience something like this in your life again!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

I cannot say enough about the staff, service, location and tours. I went all-inclusive so it was only one bill. The best way to see the place. Your only decisions are "what am I going to do today?" and "what do I want to eat or drink?"

On arrival you are greeted with an amazing refreshing ginger drink!! The staff immediately make you feel like family. Everyone goes above and beyond to make you comfortable, wanted and happy!

I went for the nature, culture and history. The guides have amazing knowledge! I loved the Blue Water Cave, the lunch I had with a family in a Mayan village (Thanks Vincent for letting me meeting and enjoy your family!). The Mayan sites are amazing!!

As a solo traveler, they had a guide assigned to me and their company at dinner, was a lot of laughs and fun!

You will truly never experience something like this in your life!! Unless you go back. I know I am going back again!!

Our visit to Machaca Hill was beyond our highest expectations. The staff, the food, the jungle surroundings were all intoxicating. There were so many things that were surprising and once in a lifetime experiences. The tram ride down to the river for dinner and entertainment. An impromtu night time boat ride on the river with all your dinner companions. Kayaking on the river during the day. Hiking in the jungle, seeing the sights with our guides, jumping off a rock beside a big waterfall, and HOWLER monkeys! What a magical place. There is no place like it and I dream of going back.

Well, it's not actually magical, but you will think it is! Relax and enjoy the best food you've ever had, the most serene setting, and the best environment for adventure, friendship, and fun possible. Machaca just makes it look easy, but there is obviously a lot of planning, thought, and insight into what makes Machaca work. The staff quickly became our friends, while still offering incredible service. The lodging, a gorgeous "treehouse" in the rainforest, only interrupted in the early mornings by howler monkeys, is incredible. Fluffy white towels, super soft white sheets and down comforter are truly appreciated at the end of a day that ends way too fast. The food is seriously the best I've ever had. Our trip is a blur of hiking, high teas, trips to ruins, Crystal Skull drinks, battle of the drums, canoeing on the Rio Grande, snorkeling, fried plantains, laughing with our guides, the quest for Permits, and the realization that of course we want to come back here some time. Machaca is magic. We had a wonderful time!

We spent 5 days at Machaca Hill last January.
The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are all seperate cabins built on a cliff in the rainforest. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The rooms have decks overlooking the rainforest with screens - you feel like you are outside all the time - but at the same time in a comfortable, clean room.
There is a river at the bottom of the cliff that winds into the sea. We took 2 trips out into the sea by boat with our guide Yogi. We went out to a small island where we snorkled, explored and picnicked.
We toured the ruins - which were spectacular. We went hiking and swam through a dark cave with waterproof flashlights attached to our heads.
The food at the hotel was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Ken (the chef) really does a wonderful job. The food is all local and fresh.
We also loved the spa.
Cannot wait to return.

We stayed for 4 nights at Machaca Hill with my wife and my 5 year old daughter. The setting is spectacular with open (but screened) cabins built right into the rainforest canopy. There is a wide range of activities, something different every day. We visited Maya ruins and villages, went snorkelling in the Bay of Honduras and learnt how to make chocoltae, all with Yogi our excellent guide. There is a lot more on offer: fishing and spotting manatees and crocodiles.

The rooms are spacious enough for 3, with beautiful bathrooms with the same big views as the bedrooms. Food is taken very seriously, with Ken the chef discussing options every night with guests. There is a preference for fresh local produce.

For us the truly remarkable aspect of this resort was service. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff from guides to waiters to chef had an attention to detail and worked overtime to get things right in what was an isolated rural environment. Leading all this activity, were hosts Jane and Brian from South Africa. Their devotion to the project is reflected in the quality of their staff.

If there is one thing to get straight is that this is a resort for nature lovers. You are right in the rainforest. In the wet season this means mosquitoes by the pool. It also means the odd bug and being woken at 5.00 am by Howler Monkeys. It is hard to believe the noise that comes out of such a small animal. These are not rare sightings, they are your neighbours! If you are not into nature and being part of it, this may not be for you. If you are, it is an ideal choice

I recently traveled in Belize and Guatemala for two weeks and had a wonderful time. We stayed in some very nice resorts all over the country, but the HIGHLIGHT was undoubtedly our three day stay at Machaca Hill. We felt welcomed and pampered from the moment we stepped onto the property. It is impossible not to relax at this place, and the staff make it so easy to do so...best service in Belize! The rooms are clean with gorgeous views, the food is remarkable, the facilities are pristine, and we felt like a member of the Machaca family. Oh, and you must book a massage with Bertha! I have recommended this place to friends every day since I've been back. It is the perfect stop if you want to combine adventure and nature activities with relaxation...although we spent most of our time at the pool! Please do not miss this piece of paradise!
