“Best Mojito in Belize!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Had lunch by the pool..so peaceful and tranquil. Adults had BLT's, which were very good, while the kids had pizza..no complaints there, even from my picky niece!
I enjoy resort/lodge hopping around Belize and very often I'm disappointed by mojitos but not here! Kathy (bartender) makes one of the best mojitos I've had in the country!
Will soon return to have dinner.. :)

Thanks Kelly. Come back again and we will teach you our secret and let you pick the fresh mint for your own drink. Perhaps the fresh mint is the secret!

We spent a lovely night here in between our sea adventures and our river adventures. SImple elegant, private, wonderful. Each room is its own little cottage with really hot, strongly flowing water in the showers! Yipee. (this means a lot when you're between adventure trips.) Grounds are beautiful, swimming pool comfortable, birdwatching deck well appointed. The staff is polite and the food was great. THey make a mean mojito!

very nice lodge in the wilderness. Each cabin has its own shower with a full window to the outdoors. everything is very clean. restaurant was great. We loved tubing down the river - floating for ages - only to arrive back at the other end of the property! If you're in the area, this is the place to stay!

Our family stayed for five nights at The Lodge at Big Falls over Christmas 2012. What a wonderful time. Great hosts, wonderful excursions, great atmosphere! This is a terrific place to stay when visiting the Toledo district of Belize. Do as many excursions as your time will allow!!

We stayed one night in early March and I wish we could have had more time there. The owners and staff are extremely nice. The food was great, the bar was fun. The cottages were absolutely perfect. Very clean and comfortable. The grounds are stunning, very well done landscaping. I will for sure be coming back one day.

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge for 3 nights in early March. The main objective was birdwatching and this was achieved thanks to the great skill of the guide, Steve Choco. He knew the best places to go; the birds to look out for; and all their calls and songs. In 2 days birdwatching with Steve we saw about 120 different species.
Some additional comments:-
Good points:
• Nice owner/managers - Marta(American) and Rob(British) - resident on site
• Pleasant grounds with nice swimming pool, and river at the bottom
• Only 8 cabanas – all with verandahs (and resident bats in our case!)
• Nice verandah on main building
• Very good food, with excellent provision for vegetarians like us
Less good points:
• No coffee/tea facilities or hair dryer in cabana
• Some noise of people/dogs/cockerels at night because it is quite near the village
• Vehicle used for drives was not ideal for birdwatching – only front passenger could see/hear well
• No telescope available on drives (there was one at the Lodge but its tripod was too heavy)

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to review your stay.
We do not routinely put hair dyers in the rooms because we want to reduce our energy consumption but do have hair dryers available on request.
Steven will always take the spotting scope and tripod in future. Thanks for your comment on that.

This lodge was a great place to stay. Having an interest in bird watching, this lodge and the surrounding area provided a variety of habitats for birding. The lodge guide Steve worked hard to find us as many birds as possible, and made sure it was the kind of adventure we wanted. On one of our guided birding trips, we saw over 120 species of bird without much effort. The meals were excellent and the staff friendly. It was nice to not have to wear bug spray, as there were few Mosquitos and no seeums. Our snorkeling adventure to Lime Caye with Dennis was a fun and amazing experience. We enjoyed spending time with the owners, Rob and Marta, who made us feel like part of the family. We recommend this lodge for nature lovers, and people who like to explore. If you are a light sleeper, however, there are times when the lodge dogs and town dogs can be a bit loud. We look forward to staying at the lodge again next time we visit Belize. We enjoyed our visit even though Rob is a Stoke City fan :).

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. We look forward to welcoming you both back again in future and will try to keep at least our own dogs from being noisy at night although they can be disturbed by passing wildlife such as possums and even big cats at times.
