“The real paradise”

Palm Villa is like coming home to Karsten and Karin. Very familiar, very genuine. Great hospitality, great food and very laidback. The best of it all: It´s not a resort, its´just a little nice hotel in the middle of this beautful village with mutlicolored houses, close to snorkling and always the little green fishing boat waiting to take us out to a desert Island for snorkling and barbeque. Just loved it.

My partner and I, were volunteers on the island of Velidhoo. The island can be reached in little over an hour from the capital Male, using seaplane and speedboat. There is also a very reasonably priced night boat from the capital running regular trips throughout the week.
We were introduced to Palm Villa by another volunteer. The owners Karsten and Karin were very friendly and welcoming.

Velidhoo is not your typical resort island as it is a local inhabited Island, however it has some of the finest beaches available and gives an insight into true life in the country. Palm Villa itself fits into the culture of the Maldives whilst considering the requirements visitors like ourselves who were unfamiliar with the local culture and it made us feel more at home being there. The accommodation in Palm Villa was very clean and decorated to a high standard.

Before my trip I had never experienced snorkeling and Karsten was more than happy to take us both into the water to snorkel. I found that the snorkeling experience in Velidhoo was much better and much more cost effective than those available on the resorts.

Throughout my trip i found nowhere in the country that gave a better view of the stars than in the grounds of Palm Villa. It was also the best place on the island in terms of food. Karsten and Karin have many years experience as top chefs in Denmark and other countries and my partner and I regularly enjoyed our visits as we were involved in the food making process and learnt how to cook as well as eating really nice 3 course meals.

I would recommend Palm Villa to anyone seeking a true reflection of what the Maldives is all about. What I loved most was the opportunities to snorkel and see wonderful sea creatures and the high quality food and accommodation available there.

Thanks to the Danish friendly and familiar owners Karsten and Karin for an unforgettable experience holiday - Palm Villa and Velidhoo was exactly what we were looking for and we are more than fully satisfied. If you want a different genuine experience away from tourists, restaurants and party life, then the Palm Villa on the local island Velidhoo is a place for you. No pool, no alcoholic drinks, no bikinis bathing in bikinis, no disturbing tourists ever. Here you get the Maldives reality - local culture with kind and helpful people. Palm Villa will serve you fantastic food with inspirations from all over the world. You can easily go out for snorkeling and se many colorful fishes and turtles. By boat you can visit the near island with almost no people and nice beaches, were it´s possible to wear bikinis. Palm Villa is a place with a slow tempo their NO stress exists. There is almost no traffic on the island so it´s quiet and peaceful. We usually do not return to the same destination, but here we go hopefully.

Best travel greetings

Dear Roberto ,

You and your sweet family were the first "real tourists" to visit us from Europe and Scandinavia.
What a remarkable stay - we enjoyed it too :-)
We even got the opportunity to spend New Years together.
Hope to see you next year , that would be lovely :-)

Maldives are overall very expensive and you only see a beach and a palm tree. Staying at Palm Villa is not expensive, you get to know the local culture, they are serving great meals (Karin and Kartsten were both top-chef's in Europe), and they help you with everything.

The island is a typical local island, that's not an island you see on postcards. But it is great to know about the real Maledivians, they are very kind. There are a few cars on the island, so overall it is very quiet. A few meters from Palm Villa there is a beautiful Coral Reef. Even the tourist from the Hilton are coming to this reef because of it's beauty. We saw many fishes, turtles and even a Manta. Snorkling gear you can borrow from Palm Villa.

For a few dollars Karsten will arrange a boat trip to a real Robinson Crusoe experience. Then it is only you, the palm trees and the sand. A great experience.

Please write Karsten about the transfer to the island. When you are not a Maledivian it can be complicated, but they help you out. Transfers are possible from an water plane (expensive choise) to a local ferry (15$ choise). We did both and are both an unforgettable experience.

The rooms are great. They have airco and even an outside shower. The water of the shower is cold, but that's the only temperature you want staying in that climate :)

Must say it again: The food is unbelievable good and for a very sharp price.

Adrian

Room Tip: Saw all rooms, they are all great.

Dear Adrian

It was a pleasure to meet you and your girlfriend Dominica at Palm Villa , and to be quite honest I think a friendly photographer angel followed you.
First time you went snorkeling you got the greatest shots of a Manta Ray one can possibly imagine - lucky you.
Thanks for the kind words , we hope to see you again sometime.
