“A warm Welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

This was probably the best place we stayed during our recent trip to NZ. The address of Nelson is misleading as the motel, which is only 3 units, is close to Springs junction on the Lewis pass. The units are spacious, comfortable and well equipped with a full size cooker. The jug of fresh milk in the fridge was a nice surprise. Liz made us very welcome and the view of the farm and the mountains from the veranda is stunning. It is well off the road so totally quiet and peaceful, we hope to return one day

We stayed at the Lewis Pass Motel on a trip to Christchurch. It is located about 2 1/2 hours by road from Nelson, about five minutes past the Maruia Springs junction. It is only three units so fills up quickly on weekends. It had great facilities and a lovely view, and was far enough off the highway to avoid any traffic noise. The hosts were very helpful and being located on a dary farm, there was fresh milk in the fridge - a nice touch.
We would definitely stay here again. Just noet that it is not anywhere close to Nelson, and Trip Advisor should correct the address

This was the best place we stayed during our visit to the south island. It was so peaceful and lush. Liz and Max were great hosts. I was sick and Liz brought be down some cough medication. Very thoughtful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The heating pad on the bed is perfect after a day of hiking. My favorite part was the view of her farm.
One of the best deals around.

Room Tip: There are only 3 rooms. I had the end and loved it.

Delightful self contained accommodation with such a friendly host in Liz. The unit is well equiped and very clean. Everything you could want to enjoy your stay on a working farm with GREAT VIEWS. If your travelling along the Lewis Pass it is well worth making time for a stay here.

We only stayed here for one night - but wished we could have spent another night. Note this motel is NOT in Nelson, and I think the address on Tripadvisor is misleading. This motel is on the state highway between Greymouth and Christchurch (Nelson is at least 1.5 hours away).

Based on a farm, the units have fantastic views across the valley, and a lovely verandah to sit out on. Unfortunately for us, it rained in the evening, but otherwise an evening walk would have been perfect.

The unit was very well equipped - with a PROPER cooker and all utensils needed. Room had a big mirror in it (why is it so many motel rooms only have a small mirror in the bathroom???) and a couple of comfy chairs to sit on as well as a good sized dining table and chairs. We also had a jug of real milk - only place on our 4 week stay that gave us real milk!

We went to the Japanese Spa and spent a lovely relaxing hour in a private pool - be warned the sandflies are terrible there and being outside is not recommended.

At $100 this was a really good value motel, that was clean, well equipped, with a great rural location adna very friendly host. However, if you're looking for somewhere where you can walk into a town this is not for you.

Lewis Pass is a little isolated but a necessary stop between Nelson and Christchurch. We stayed at the Lewis Pass Motels in March 07 and it was the best thing we could have done. The rate for a couple was only $100 for the night.

The motel unit was clean and tidy and best of all warm. The facilities were simple but the TV and heater worked and the kitchenette was very well stocked with cutlery etc, and the nicest thing of all was a jug of milk! Not the silly little sachet things that have become the norm in most motels. It was very comfortable and perfect for an overnight before heading onto Christchurch.

We were running late by about an hour and by the time we were in signal range to call and say we would be late it was almost 9pm. When we checked in the lovely owner mentioned she could have sold the room 10 times over. As we were so late I would have expected she was a bit concerned about losing a booking but her friendliness was exceptional.

In the morning we woke to cows in the paddock outside and a sweeping vista of Springs Junction.

I would definitley stay here again.
