This past weekend my wife and I set out after lunch on Saturday afternoon for a motorcycle mini-adventure of northern Ontario. Since beginning to ride this summer we decided to follow our "code of the road" which includes staying at non-chain owned accommodations and eating at so called mom and pops restaurants. More often than not we have been more than pleasantly surprised by the offerings of these establishments and Oakview Lodge was one that included both of the utmost quality. Our trip took us up northern Ontario on the lesser travelled Highway 35. Another of our "codes" is to find the smaller back roads to our destinations and Oakview is exactly 5 km from the main road of Hwy 35 just north of Carnarvon, ON. At Oakview you are warmly greeted by Valerie your host. Krenar her husband is the head chef offering excellent fine dining in a remarkable Northern Ontario setting. The accommodations were extremely comfortable and clean. Beds are pillow top mattresses and I would recommend staying in the Sunrise suite as when the sun rises your bedroom will be warmly flooded with golden sun rays. Another special feature is the guest-only breakfast. Fresh ingredients combined expertly made for a delicious morning before heading on the road. Freshly brewed coffee was also available to take back to our room.
All in all this one night experience was so rich with the personal touch of the owners that we can not wait to return for a longer stay. These folks have captured what true Canadian northern cottage country hospitality is all about. Thank you Valerie and Krenar!
