“Short Stay for Rugby League World cup”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2008

In contrast to some of the former guests comments on your website I found the receptionist extremely pleasent & helpfull. We found our room clean & all facilities in good working order. we found the motel (a couple of miles from the local rsl) a bit far for walking but their was a public bus service & the rsl supplied a courtesy bus which was great. On the down side the newcastle taxi 24 hr service was a complete waste of time as we & other people we met during our stay found that they didnt even answer some of our calls & when they did, didnt turn up. Thank god the motel had supplied us with a bus timetable. Bob & Viv from Tempe would like to thank you for your hospitality.

The woman on reception was very RUDE and UNHELPFUL! Would not recommend unless you want to ruin your day by speaking to her! She was so unhelpful and rude, i asked her a question about the area as I am from the other side of Australia and she said "No, I can't help you" without even letting me finish my question!

I think we had the same room as milescheifetz and would make the same remarks but plus some! In our case we paid $80 for night 1 and $90 for night 2. We were greeted at the office with little more than a grunt - outstandingly poor guest relations. To top it off, after we departed we were hit with a $50 extra charge for smoking in the room in contravention of the rules. My wife doesn't smoke and wouldn't allow me to smoke in the room even if there was no rule against it. We concede that we disposed of an empty cigarette packet and a few filters from cigarettes consumed outside in the room's rubbish bin. The presence of the rubbish confirms in the managers mind that we had broken the rules and thus he was entitled to hit our Credit Card after we had departed. Since our room had been serviced on the 2nd day of our stay, and there were a couple of filters in the bin that day, the management had the opportunity to address the issue to our face but didn't choose to do so. Strange. We emailed the manager querying the extra charge and got a lecture on how important it is to give up smoking! When we responded explaining that we hadn't smoked in the room, communication became, and has remained, one-way. He's keeping the money regardless of what we say. Don't take the risk - stay somewhere else. You couldn't be worse off.

The first thing that struck us was its isolation, and stuck in horrible shipyards, despite motel site saying it was 10 mins from CBD. Room was at least thirty-five years old with cracked bathroom vanity, old-fashioned (and smelly) bedspread, fridge had only small milk 'poppers' in it and nothing else. Views were of a bank of dirt and carpark- motel site said there'd be views of the harbour. Pool was out-of-action. Site said there'b be a bar and restaurant which was not true. No convenience stores anywhere nearby. Everything looked dangerous and dodgy.Price was totally out-of-keeping with accommodation- it was worth c. $25/night, not the $110 I paid.

In conclusion, never stay at this property- you will regret it immensely.

  • Liked — At least they had limited Foxtel.
  • Disliked — Being loudly awoken in the morning by staff.
