This really is a refreshing change from the typical chain/corporate view of "luxury" hotels (Hilton et al). Eric and his wife have been renovating this fabulous house for 10 years and only opened as a hotel in July 2012.
My wife and I booked an overnight stay during a cycling trip along the Canal du Midi and this was by far the best hotel of the trip (and the best hotel experience of the past few years). The outside of the building still needs some tidying, and the approach along the unsurfaced drive may give cause for concern, but once you are inside all this will be forgotten as you are blown away by the amount of effort that has gone into rescuing this building and developing a comfortable hotel. Hopefully, you will be there at a relatively quiet time so that Eric can give you the full tour of all the different suites. All are very different and it would be a tough call to pick one out if you are given the choice.
Service - the hotel was quiet at the end of October and it was due to close for further work mid November. We were the only ones staying on that particular night and dinner wasn't available at the hotel. However, the owner did organise some food and wine for us and we enjoyed our night in our own personal chateau!
The lounge area is very comfortable and the area to the rear of the building (with a swimming pool) would be great in warmer weather.
Breakfast was excellent.
