“Galle face, Colombo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

We had a marvelous trip to Colombo this year. Sitting on the 14th floor of my friend's office at the World Trade Center is a breathtaking view of the Galle Face, a boulevard beside the Indian Ocean. It's located in the business hub of Sri Lanka. The famous and oldest Galle Face Hotel stands tall in all it's grandeur and is located here. The Fort of Colombo begins where Galle Face ends at the old Parliament Building which is the current Presidential Secretariat. The Beira lake is a beautiful as I sit and watch up from the tallest building. The town is splashed everywhere with old colonial architecture standing in it's opulence. The Taj Samudra, The Galadari Meridian and the Colombo Hilton, Fort Police Station, the old Dutch Hospital are found in this area. The streets are impeccably clean. The Coffee Shop at Cinnamon Grand is worth a visit. The Lagoon at Cinnamon Grand has the best seafood I have had till date. Incomparable! Colombo is worth a visit.

“No Fort anymore ... but fond memories of the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Where the Portuguese brave navigators first landed, back in the 16th century, and established their trade port, turned later on into a fort, stands Colombo Fort Area. The fort, taken by the Dutch in 1656 and passed over to the British in 1815, was demolished in 1870. Ramparts and fortifications are completely gone, and now one will find there Colombo's busy financial and commercial district. Two modern towers, with 36 floors each one, house the World Trade Center of Colombo. Historical buildings, remaining from the colonial period, can also be seen in the Fort Area: the General Post Office, the Old Lighthouse and many others. This combination between old and new will give you a good opportunity to see how fast Sri Lanka is moving toward future. Enjoy.

Colombo Fort in the busiest cities in Sri Lanka. From Five star hotels to best resturents to central train station to central bus stand. I visit this city every day, since I work within the city.
You can walk near the beach or go shopping at a lukury mall or dine in a 5 star hotel or even experaince the every day life of a typical Sri Lankan with the hussle bussle...

Point to remember>>

Make sure you have bit of LKR to pay your travelling>>There are licensed money exchanges who can make sure you have cash
Always get in to a METER- taxi>> 3 wheelers (bajaj, tuk tuk)
Try not to walk around ater 7pm unless very much urgent... you can find decent transpotation if required~

very interesting and easy to navigate area with many buildings from the dutch and british eras. it looks like the authorities are trying hard to improve the area and the dutch hospital has been renovated very tastefully.
