We were staying in nearby Windstein and wanted one of the children who was passing through to experience flammenkuchen and other Alsatian delights in a relaxed local atmosphere. The owner of our gite recommended Hohenfels for the food and the pleasant owner (who's a Brit), and we were glad she did. At our hostess's recommendation, we had 3 different tarte de flambees, one after the other, in increasing order of complexity, accompanied by a simple but very appropriate salad and the usual beer and wine. They were among the best we've had in 3 trips to Alsace.
The outside patio dining was delightful on a warm night--all in all, a very enjoyable and relaxing dinner, and our son's dubiousness at our fondness for things Alsatian was overcome.
