“Climber's paradise in El Chorro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2011

We visited the Olive Branch intending to stay for one night and ended up staying almost one month! There is simply nothing to fault with the OB, excellent hard-working hosts Gary and Mel create such a lovely friendly atmosphere that everyone staying at the OB is friendly and welcoming too....clean bathrooms, great kitchen (well stocked with beer and wine), Thai curry night, pool table, free wifi internet, swimming pool....such excellent value and so close to awesome crags like Las Encantadas and Las Frontales......there is nothing not to like. Can't wait to go back already and we only left 24 hours ago....

I went to the olive branch for just less than a week and stayed in the bunk house. The facilities were just what you need for a climbing trip. Being 5 mins from the nearest crag less than 30 min walk from frontales and arabe less than 1 hour walk to the gorge.
I did the trip with out a car so I was limited to the local crags which involves 3 giant lime stone cliffs with single pitch and multipitch climbing up to 250m+.
The bunkhouse was large with 10 beds with a good size kitchen and bathroom. being a bunk house it is loked after by the guests however it was cleaned daily by the staff also.
My friend stayed in a on-suite room which was fantastic. Plenty of room giant bathroom.
They had a pool table and free wifi throught the site. They had a pool and plenty of confortable spaces to relax.
Another great part was the atmosphere with everyone mixing and chatting about the area.

Short of living with your parents for your holiday, you'll never feel so well looked after! The hospitality was incredible, but still completely down-to-earth. We were picked up from the station on arrival, and the day after tagged along on a shopping trip - we had no car but Gary, one of the owners, was heading that way anyway. We found ourselves buying award winning oranges from the most humble of vendors (actually Gary bought them, and everyone at the Olive Branch was eating and praising them for days!), and discovering that ordering pork loin is pretty bloody hard when you don't speak the language!

The Olive Branch is utterly relaxed in beautiful surroundings, there's pool (and a pool) and free wifi, and it sits just underneath one of the best crags in the area. The facilities are everything you need, and if you're feeling lazy or haven't been shopping yet easy and cheap dinner and breakfast are on hand, and they'll even make you sandwiches for lunch! I can't fault the Olive Branch. El Chorro as a place is amazing, but your impression of a place is always massively influenced by where you stay and the people you meet. On both counts a 10/10.

I'd recommend this place to anyone. It's very reasonably priced, comfortable and a nice crowd. The owners are so helpful they sometimes feel more like hosts than someone you are paying! It was the perfect place for me to rest up after some troublesome food in Morocco. It's by far the best place the best place I've stayed for a climbing holiday.

Great place for climbers, with all their needs catered to by the friendly and obliging staff at a great price. Need to be picked up? A lift to the supermarket? Good information on the best crags to visit? A guide or a climbing partner? It's all available here. Rooms are comfortable, spacious and amazing value, and there's a pool and a pool table for rest days. Nice vibe as well as enough privacy and space for those who who want to be left alone. I've been there three times this year alone.

The owners, Gary and Mel, are extremely warm and welcoming and will go out of their way to help you! The accommodation itself is very clean and tidy with all you need and more in terms of cooking/washing/sleeping/wifi and a beautiful view.... they even have an honesty bar for if you forget to buy the beers in!

A climber myself, I found this place a perfect base! It was within walking distance to all of the best crags (no more than 20 minutes) however, if you were here to hike or just relax it is also ideal!

Will definitely stay here again if I am in the area! However, next time we will take the offer of a lift from Alora off Mel and Gary rather than relying on the local busses/trains as they are very infrequent!
