Owner description: The Churnet Valley Railway, is a picturesque heritage Steam Railway that runs through the Staffordshire’s Little Switzerland, the Churnet Valley. It meanders alongside the Caldon Canal and the River Churnet for a delightful nostalgic ten and a half mile return journey. Kingsley & Froghall Station has ample parking and disabled access and is home to the award winning traditional Tea Room and the railways Souvenir Shop both of which are open on running days. Consall Station has no public road access making it very quiet and isolated in its situation beside the weir on River Churnet where the canal splits from the river. Nearby are the Lime Kilns and the Black Lion Public House. At Cheddleton Station you can visit the Railway’s Engine Sheds and its small Railway Artifacts Museum. Trains run Sundays Easter to September, Saturdays June, July & August and Wednesdays in July and August plus all Bank Holiday Mondays.

The best weekend for us. Ok fun sights and the redone consall station to black lion pub. We always start at Froghall cus walks round old pull tram to quary for walk, plus start of line till alton station opens back up. But back to day sitting in lovely compartment looking waving at people walking on cannal, but must get of at Cheddleton due to been start of it all so sideings of trains been done up.
Cant wait for line to get to endon more then Stoke.

“An Excellent Day Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2015

A preserved railway in beautiful countryside in Staffordshire, with a real period atmosphere. Punctual trains, well presented with clean and tidy interiors, and very friendly and helpful staff. Dog friendly, with drinking bowls on the station platforms. At Froghall, a very cosy restaurant and snack bar, with an excellent selection of hot and cold food at very reasonable prices, and again, very friendly staff. On the day of our visit one of the many special events was being held with Daleks and super heroes including Doctor Who, to the obvious enjoyment of children and parents alike. An excellent leaflet is provided showing train times very clearly, and whether steam or diesel hauled, with full details on the web site at churnetvalleyrailway.co.uk. In all, very good value for money.

Pay the extra £2 a head to travel 1st class! You can get your own little cabin in the carriage and travel like the fat cats of the past used to.

“Birthday trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2015

I booked a trip on the C V R on Sunday March 1st for myself and 24 guests. The service from start to finish was excellent, from the booking process through to the trip itself! We ordered coffee tea and cake, which was delicious, and served to us by a helpful and happy hostess. . and even the kids on the trip were catered for with chocolate cake and juice. All in all an excellent adventure for a birthday trip during which myself and all my guests were treated to a nostalgic journey through the lovely Churnet Valley. Thanks!
