“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Having eaten at the previous venue owned by the proprietors in Farnham, we were expecting a certain level of service and quality.
We were highly disappointed by the food and the service and especially the price (be aware all additional foods, i.e. potatoes, vegetables are served at extra cost).

Our main disappointments were:
When we arrived we requested drinks first at the bar. We were told by the sour faced owner that we would have to take our table immediately as drinks would only be served to us there.
We paid approx £20 per main course (plus approx £6 for potatoes and veg each) and each was a disappointment. (Avoid the beef wellington if any of your teeth are not your own).
The so called silver service staff in mini skirts-great if you that's your thing and you are happy for them to spill your drinks in front of you.

Generally we felt a huge sense of lethargy abut the place-won't be going back as there are far better places to eat around Farnham.

“More Surrey than Hampshire”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

This pub has been much loved by many over the years and it has had its ups and downs. Probably on an up at the moment under a new tenancy. However the starched white tablecloths and bow tied waiters are more Farnham than Well. And what has happened to the glorious open fire and the oak settle with the litte round table beside the fire? Could be at risk of modernising too much for this beautiful and historic pub. The tenant is welcoming and the food is good and service prompt, and a notice welcomes well-behaved dogs which is a plus. Could do with a photo of the right pub on this website though!!

“Cosy old pub, lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

My husband and I went to The Chequers for something to eat and a pint. Lovely cosy old pub, we ate in the bar which we think is nicer than the restaurant anyway. Really good food at fair prices. Lovely views across the fields out the back, if the sun should decide to come out there's a garden aswell.

“Lovely location- Great staff .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

This pub is set in lovely countryside,it has parking and also a garden with views over the fields. Outside the front is a opened fronted covered area with a few tables. The bar area is straight ahead of you as you walk through the door . This area has a cosy feel to it and in the winter there is an open fire. To the right through the door is a small area with sofas - great for a pre dinner drinks, before you go into the restaurant. The staff are great - they went out of the way to cater for my dietary requirements. They make you feel welcome . The food was lovely and I would recommend a visit to this pub. I noted in other reviews comments about the prices. We visited another pub recently in this area and we paid similar prices for less food! We will be returning, hopefully sooner rather than later.

“Yummy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Had a great meal,as usual, but just had to mention the sea bass. It was really excellent. Found the staff very obliging and the chef obviously has a passion for his food. We chatted after service and he really seemed to care that we loved our meal. It was a great birthday treat.
