“Completely fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013 via mobile

It was just fantastic! It's especially the ambience that we liked so much. It felt like making a time switch of 20-30 years back (but not old or in a bad condition, the resort was built just after the tsunami 5-6 years ago). We stayed 6 nights and had the resort almost completely for ourself (only 10 more guests on average, sometimes there are the guided tour groups) the Pool is clean, the rooms got cleaned sometimes even twice per day. The staff was super friendly! The Beach is basically all yours. They offer several trips (whale watching, snorkeling, diving, ...) they offer a lot of different massages, steambaths, .... You can eat and have a drink whenever you want. We would come back again :-)

Stayed at this place for one night just last week . Appearance of the hotel could have been a lot better . Welcoming was great . We had booked 4 double rooms . Cleanliness of the place is below avg . Ceiling fan was out of work . Guys had to replace the fan while we were in the room . Didn't even bother to wipe off the fallen dust from the job . Pool area is clean . Dirty lamp shades .

On a positive note - buffet was great . Taste and appearance was great . Loved the fish curry but all food items should haven been served hot . Beach area was good . Not many locals staying at the place.

Wouldn't rate this as a 4 star resort may be a 2.5 or 3 star .

The beaches around Trincomalee are still very quiet and idyllic, but all looks set to change in the aftermath of the war.
We enjoyed our two day stay here, the room was clean, comfortable and very well air conditioned. Rooms are grouped round a good sized clean pool, and very close to the beach which seems endless, with a great view of Pigeon Island. The hotel offers trips to the island but local boat owners on the beach will give you a better deal... The trip is only 10 minutes and highly recommended for snorkelling.
The food here is very good, if a bit expensive. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our only gripe was that we were charged for our driver's food when he ate with us..This is unusual in Sri Lanka, most places feed drivers for free or for a minimal charge. The Manager was unhelpful on this point .

We spent two nights here. It is not top end luxury but is still a good medium sized resort , nice beach areas with great views of Pigeon island. Room was large and comfortable and a nice pool. Food was good with a decent buffet and menu. The main complaint was that the boat trips on offer seem a tad overpriced although as we didn't stay anywhere else in the area it may be standard. All staff were very friendly and service was generally efficient

What a little gem this place is. Located 20km out of Trincomalee this small hotel is on the shores of the Indian Ocean without anything much around it. The hotel has been restored and added on following the Tsunami and we had the good fortune of being allocated a room on the ground floor directly facing the ocean with swaying coconut palms framing the view of Pigeon Island. The pool is very large and clean although some umbrellas for shade there would be a useful addition. The beach is fine sand and stretches into the distance without another soul in sight. It was disappointing to see all the rubbish, plastic bottles etc that were strewn along the beach - however the beach in front of the hotel was immaculate. There seems to be only one other hotel a little way down on the right. I have read other comments about this hotel which comment that most of the rooms do not face the beach and yes this is true. The 3 storey extension has 6 rooms which face the beach and all others in the 2 storey block face onto the pool or grassy courtyard in front of the open air restaurant. The food is beautifully presented and is quite varied given that the hotel is small. The meals however are a little expensive and there are no close alternatives for a more economical meal. The room is large and clean with bar fridge, cable TV and kettle. Again, no hair dryer or even an appropriate power point in the bathroom for one. Staff are obliging and service is efficient in the two dining areas. I would suggest that some cups and maybe some tea bags would be an appropriate accompaniment for the kettle. We chose not to take the boat ride to Pigeon Island. At $25 each it seemed a little expensive and unless you had reef shoes, it could prove to be a painful excursion.
I must add that there is very little to see in Trincomalee other than the Fort and Hindu temple. Absolutely do not waste your time going to the hot wells. They were disgusting, run down full of slime and locals were the only ones there using it as their bathroom. It was sad to see the ruins of houses along the waterfront and also to see the little boxes of government built Tsunami houses to rehouse those locals who once lived by the ocean. I guess it wont be too long before the developers arrive to build resorts on what was formerly their homes and livelihoods. Ah progress!!!!!

Room Tip: Anything facing the sea is great

This is a small size hotel, which is ideal for a family vacation. The rooms have all the basic amenities provided and the beach is a short walk away and swimming is safe during the season only.. The staff are friendly and courteous and anxious to please. The buffet meals are not extensive, but the fare provided is more than adequate and tastily prepared. There is a fair size pool and play area for the kids.

Room Tip: Choose an upstair room in the middle block away from the restaurant noise

Pigeon Island Resort is a nice hotel. The set-up is curious. None of the rooms will have ocean view as they all face out into a quad and the window looks out into wooded area. However, the pool is nice. The beach is nicer, although not swimmable - at least it wasn't in December.

The food was about the best I'd had in a hotel in Sri Lanka, although was a bit pricey. This was especially bad considering that the hotel was a bit far from anything else. The alcohol selection was limited, but the staff was friendly and helpful.

The rooms were spacious, AC'd and ceiling fan.

The resort itself is quite nice, and the dining room is spacious and airy.

But again, NOTHING is on the beach of has a beach view. Actually, the beach is quite a walk away, but it's beautiful and private.
