“A Lovely Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I stayed at the Peak Edge with my partner and our dog for a weekend recently as a last minute arrangement due to our original trip away being cancelled. The hotel had been highly recommended to us by a family member so after months of wanting to go but not finding the right weekend, we decided to visit. This hotel is very handily located for walking in the Peaks and visiting the surrounding towns (Chesterfield, Bakewell etc).

On arrival we were shown to our room which was handily and thoughtfully located next to a fire exit which the lady on reception told us was probably the most convenient way for us to get the dog in and out of the hotel. Our room was spacious, comfortable and overlooked the lake. We made our way to the bar next to the hotel for a drink before dinner and found it cosy with a great selection of drinks on offer and an open fire adding to the country pub feel. Whilst we were eating our dinner, it became clear that there was a Christmas party in the room adjoining the bar (there was a wedding the next night). This became noisy at times (the guests access the main bar through a connecting door) but we were still able to hear the pianist playing live in the bar. Once back in our room for the evening, the noise of the party was long gone and it was almost silent. We were disturbed briefly by the occupant of the room upstairs in the early hours but this was short lived and other than that, quality of sleep was brilliant due to the comfy king size bed.

Overall we had an excellent stay and other than a few minor hiccups (no table booked for dinner despite our request for one, no paper on the first morning and the incorrect paper on the second morning and a mix up with our breakfast orders) it was a brilliant stay. The staff worked hard to make up for these mistakes and couldn't do enough to make the situation better. We will definitely be returning and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to stay near the Peaks.

Our son recomended the peak edge after they had spent their honeymoon there ,we are so glad we went the food, rooms, atmosphere, situation and staff are some of if not the best we have come across in our travels around the country and only 45 mins from home.
The layout of the hotel is such that none of the late night events happening in the function rooms interfere with the superb bedrooms where we had a great nights sleep.
I would like to thank the staff and owners for a wonderful weekend and will be arranging another visit early next year

Room Tip: All rooms are superb with superb views

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay here with us and that you had a good nights sleep, we did aim to keep the noise levels down when designing the hotel to keep the bar and functions away from the bedrooms, it's good to know that this worked.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Peak Edge Hotel in hopefully the not to distant future.

The location was lovely and close enough to various tourist locations. The hotel is still fairly new (only 4 years old) but has plenty of charm. Room was spacious, well equipped and had a really nice bathroom. Only negative was the bed, felt like it had two single mattresses put together as there was a big dip in the middle. Check in process was efficient and staff were extremely friendly, we were actually shown to our room by someone from reception, a nice little touch.

Attached to the hotel is the gastro pub The Red Lion. It had a really relaxed atmosphere, the food was good and reasonably priced, breakfast was particularly nice. Not a great selection of beers if you are an ale drinker.

The one downside was the service on the evenings, think they could do with more staff in the bar and restaurant when they have a function on, service was a little slow at times.

Overall this is a nice hotel and despite the issue of service in the evenings I would still return and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting the Peak District.

With regards to your service in the bistro being slow I can only apologise and hope this didn t spoil your time with us too much, its good to know that you enjoyed the food in the Red Lion.

We all look forward to you visiting us agian in hopefully the not to distant future.

Our stay was very much a last minute plan and booked by my partner so I approached this with a trusting but open mind. Websites and photos on booking sites can be deceiving but really the photos aren't doing this hotel justice. When I walked into our standard rate room it really had the wow factor. Generously proportioned with a wet room style bathroom that included a bath as well as a monsoon shower, a huge comfortable bed and a sitting area. You can relax quickly here The hotel really is very tastefully styled and thoughtfully designed. I loved the Christmas trees lining the corridors, the comfy seats in Reception and the nooks and cranies in the bar area. The best thing though was the way that function areas have been arranged so that parties and large events don't impact on others staying in the hotel or dining in the restaurant so your heart needn't sink if you hear the word 'party' or 'wedding' when you need a good night's sleep and those that are celebrating can do so with gusto. We will come back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room along the left corridor as you enter reception - Rooms 100+

What is it that makes a hotel exceptional? One expects a comfortable room at these prices (very spacious with superb bathroom), one expects great facilities, but to make it exceptional you need the staff. They are charming, cheerful, witty, funny and obviously extremely well suited to their job, that's because Damien and Jo, the owners, know how to pick their staff for they are two of the most pleasant hosts we've encountered, they were born to do this. The other necessity that makes it exceptional is food. We have never tasted venison so good nor seen such inventive presentation, to call the Red Lion a 'Gastro pub' is almost not doing it justice; we have had 'fine dining' that's most inferior to the food here. Go, even if the fog means you get lost (like we did) go and stay, go for the food but make sure you go.

Room Tip: Overlooking the lake.

We booked the Peak Edge Hotel for a two night stay away with the family. What a wonderful couple of days we have had. As soon as we pulled into the hotel grounds we knew we were in for a treat, the hotel is stunning inside and out. The reception staff were very friendly and accommodating and showed us to our room. We had booked the Lytham Suite and wow what an absolutely beautiful room finished to an exceptionally high standard, the beds were very comfortable and the size of the room and bathroom were extremely spacious. The restaurant was of very high quality and the food was enjoyed by all the family, clean plates all round. The bar staff, waiters and waitresses were all very nice and service excellent and efficient. Many thanks to all for making our stay memorable and such a fantastic couple of days. Kev & Claire
