“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014

The food here is excellent. The breakfast in particular is fantastic -- the fruit juice is freshly squeezed; home-made muesli is very good; the fruit is freshly prepared that morning (not chopped up the night before like in some hotels). The care that goes into the food is very obvious and makes the food very enjoyable. The service is excellent and friendly. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and well furnished. We would highly recommend this place.

We stayed in this excellent hotel for 2 nights and wished we had booked a longer stay!
We have been to many hotels all over the world and this small hotel in Derbyshire can match many of them with it's stylish rooms and most importantly the friendly and professional staff who were always ready to help and always with a lovely smile.
The rooms have under floor heating, beautiful bathrooms with roll top baths and huge rain water walk in showers.
The Bistro:-
Well what can I add. It has achieved the honour of being the Derbyshire Bistro Champion for the past 3 years and justifiably so judging from the top quality Michelin style food on the menu.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating and my was it very good-
Professionally cooked to perfection and beautifully presented.
There is an A la Carte menu supplemented by daily specials to suit all tastes.
All the produce is locally sourced with eggs and many of their salads and vegetables coming from their own gardens.
The bar serve local real ales and the wine list is eclectic and has some very interesting bottles both New and Old World.
The ambience in both the pub and Bistro is magical with lovely nooks and crannies an complemented by candelabra and candles on every table and in the public areas.

The final memory of any hotel before departing must be the last Breakfast.
Non greasy a choice of freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit eithr Continental or Full English breakfast and NO greasy plates in sight.
I loved the Mc Sweens Haggis with the full English - delicious.

Well done to the family and staff for making our stay so welcome and enjoyable.
We will return.
Thank you.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms have better views.

Have just spent a night at this wonderful hotel. The room was clean and very good quality bedding . The view from the window was so peaceful looking over the countryside. The breakfast was so very well presented and so much choice. The staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We ate at night next door at the Red Loin and the standard was just brilliant. Looking forward to going again, it was a real treat.

Spent two amazing days at this wonderful hotel. We ate both nights at the Red Lion next door. The food was excellent and the staff were efficient and very welcoming. Cant wait to return very soon. Have recommended it to our friends. Cannot praise this hotel enough.

On the way to Peak Edge for a couple of nights break, our car inadvertently got filled with the wrong fuel (not by the writer!) so we ended up carless in Chesterfield and having to take a taxi to the hotel, leaving the car at the dealership for repair. The staff were unbelievably concerned and helpful in trying to make up for our disastrous journey - in fact all the staff were truly lovely. The hotel is superb - the layout is thoughtfully designed and the appointments - room and bathroom - were excellent quality. The menu and food well exceeded our expectations - unique choices and wonderfully presented. The lovely friendly owners, Damien and Jo, deserve the highest accolade for their efforts in creating a very special place - they have built up a first class team around them and hopefully their plans for future development will come to fruition. Our plan is to return - with trouble free travel(!) as soon as possible.

Room Tip: This hotel is an ideal choice for anyone wanting ground floor rooms with a lovely view

Not sure why this hotel is not a 4red star as it is way better than a 4star hotel. The food and service is second to none. Set in a loverly location for a peaceful nights sleep, will be back soon. Dinner lived up to the rosette standard and the staff could not do too much for use. The restaurant is in the old part of the building a 17th century inn and has bags of charm.
