“Scotland's Charm, Excellent Hospitality & Amazing Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Stayed here over the Christmas holiday. It's a cold time to visit but the quality of our stay made it more than worthwhile. Coming up the long private drive, you see this imposing house pearched at the top of a hill with great views of the rolling hills of the Borders over the river Tweed. It has a pond and great fields that would be amazing in the summer. The beatuiful hall and living room are decadently decorated but are comfortable and unpretentious, complete with a large wood burning fireplace. Yet the biggest asset lies with the hospitable hosts who offer exceedingly high quality food and accommodation. The fact that they used to run well known restaurants in the area explains the yummy food and their thoughtful nature. You really feel pampered and relaxed in the most sincere and friendly company. Sheila will go out of her way to help you find what you want, whether it is a special whiskey, antiques or cashmere scarves. This stay truly completes a wholesome Scottish Borders experience and is something you want to come back to again and again.

We've just arrived home from one of the best B&B experiences of our lives - Fauhope is a country house B&B like no other and Sheila certainly made our visit, along with 4 friends, a stay to remember.
The house itself is stunning as are the views and Sheila's hospitality is of the highest calibre - large, comfy rooms, views out across unspoilt countryside and a warm friendly welcome. Thank you Sheila for making us feel like one of the family

It's difficult to think of anything negative to say about this place. We were made very welcome indeed. The facilities were excellent and there are lots of little touches which show an exceptional attention to detail by the Robsons. The situation is stunning with one of the best views in the Borders over the Tweed to Melrose and the Eildon Hills. As a place to stay to explore this wonderful area, Fauhope would take some beating.

Beautiful house, large, warm rooms with enormous beds and huge bathrooms, and the grounds are beautiful with fantastic vistas.
You're met with coffee, cake (and sherry!) and wonderful hospitality by Ian and Sheila.
It's officially a "B&B" but somewhere along the way it picked up "5-star" luxury.

Room Tip: I can't vouch for the other rooms but we had the Turret Room and it looks directly on to the Eil...

This portion of our trip was unplanned and finding Sheila and Ian's home was sheer serendipity! From the moment of our arrival we felt more like "friends and family" than guests of this world class B&B. Sheila is a wealth of information about the local area and all of her suggestions turned out to be gems. We found the breakfast portion of the visit to be the best we encountered during 3 weeks in Scotland.

Our only regret was that we could not extend the visit, both because of our schedule and because a prominent person in the UK was arriving the day we left. Sheila obviously does a fabulous job when people who could stay anywhere elect her home during their journeys!

Room Tip: The higher priced room offer great value.

We stayed at Fauhope over our wedding. We are local to the Scottish Borders and therefore staying away from home has to offer something really special. Fauhope house is a beautiful house set in carefully kept gardens with stunning views of the Eildon Hills. The service is exceptional and our hosts were kind, generous and always looking to find ways to make our stay more comfortable. The rooms are have gorgeous big bathrooms and the house also has lovely reception rooms which were great for our wedding photographer. The breakfast is a real treat too, and most importantly we really felt relaxed. We couldn't recommend Fauhope highly enough, and will be looking for excuses for our next visit. Thank you both so much!

We decided to stay here on the recommendation of a friend. I got married on the Friday, We stayed Friday night at Doxford Hall which was incredible, and then stayed the next 4 nights at Fauhope House. This was in many ways even better than our experience at Doxford Hall.
We were greeted by Sheila Robson who is lovely and made us feel so welcome.
The house really is something else. My husband said he felt like a king! I don't know what the room was called but it was beautifully designed/furnished and luxurious.

It was made up of:
- a massive bedroom, (the bed was so massive ... it must have been a super super kingsize bed)... complete with sherry in a large crystal decanter (a very nice touch)
- a separate room with wardrobes and a kitchenette area (with sink, microwave and fridge.... perfect for our champagne and nibbles)
- a modern bathroom with a heated floor!!!!!
- a beautiful charming private garden just to ourselves (this was perfect as the weather was amazing too)

The rest of the house was also very impresiive.
- stunning breakfast room with attention to detail from the classical music to the tiny silverware on the tables.
- The communal lounge was hugely spacious and probably hardly ever used (again with 2 decanters- one with sherry, the other with whiskey!)
- The grounds/gardens are just massive and stunning with views accross the borders which go on for miles.

Breakfast
- very good hearty quality ingredients.
- coffee was spot on
- I have to mention the delicious raspberry jam made by Sheila's mother.

So you can see why our exepctations were blown out of the water.

Sheila mentioned that her staff are able to provide complimentary therapy (we didnt have a chance as we had already booked Stobo Castle spa)... I think things like facials, hot stones, massages etc... if the quality of everything else is to go by, this should be worth doing.

other recommendations whilst we were in the Borders:
- restaurants: Marmions Brasserie (Melrose), Chapters (Gattonside)
- Spa (Stobo Castle.... faultless and indulgent)
- things to do: mountain biking at Glentress, various castles, St Mary's Loch.

We WILL be back!

Thank you Sheila and Iain
