“FIRST CLASS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

From start to finish this eating experience was first class. On entering we were greeted immediately by friendly staff, and the best log fire I have seen in a long time. The restaurant was full and we were seated in the bar area, but this was no problem at all.
Excellent menu at first we thought a little pricey, but after eating we all agreed that the quality presentation and service was pretty good and only slightly overpriced..
Sea food pancake as a starter this was a meal on its own, with salmon, prawn, cod, scallops muscles in a delicious sauce wrapped in a perfect pancake.
Sea Bass, possible the best sea bass I have tasted served with scallops fresh vegetables and side salad. Not the biggest fillet of Bass I have had but big enough.
Once again for desert a cheese board not at £8 50 I thought this may be a little bit on the expensive side but 7 selected cheeses, quality butter, biscuits, grape served on a slate plate made the price decent. One thing missing was chutney but I am sure if I had asked for this it would have appeared.
Total price for 4 was just over £200, Not a place you would go to on a regular basis but for that special occasion it is a must. The Bridgewater Arms gets a well deserved 10/10 .

“VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

We visited the Bridgewater Arms as a party of 6 on a cold February night and were greeted by smiling staff and a roaring fire in the bar which also serves as the casual restaurant as opposed to the more formal dining areas adjacent.
The menu is chalked on a large blackboard above the fire and I defy many folks to stand there for very long without heat damage to the skin - just what the doctor ordered on such a night.
The blackboard takes its theme from a previous use of the building, which many years ago was a school, and there are lots of school day artefacts in the premises which are both interesting and entertaining.
I understand the chef is ex the no longer existent Black Bull at Moulton which shows through in the excellence of the food.
A particular favourite of ours at the Black Bull was the seafood pancake starter which continues to excel at the Bridgewater Arms. It was excellent, brimming with fish and so large one of our party had it as a main course.
The steaks we had were superb. One party member had a fillet which was perfectly done as ordered and served with real home cooked chips and a bowl of seasonal vegetables. I had probably the best fillet steak I have had for years and my order to have it "not bleeding to death and not dried out" was perfectly understood. The Dover Sole was another popular choice of the party which also excelled taking us back again to the Black Bull where seafood was a speciality.
We dined in the bar area and had the "pleasure" of being drowned out for 40 minutes or so by a bunch of partying silver surfers old enough to be a great grandparents. Maybe they didn't have their hearing aids turned on but they were off the scale in terms of noise.
Food and drink were excellent as was the ambience but if you want a quite night of conversation around the table ask for a table in the actual restaurant rooms as opposed to the bar.
Not cheap but very good value for money

“Good but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

Really good 80th birthday. Good atmosphere, really good food but well over priced. Think the fillet steak was£26. To much, just opened. Was very nice though. Think £20 is more than enough for a fillet steak. Wine was nice but profit margins must be 200%!! Think of repeating customers and don't let happen what has happened to this place several times, reduce your price and keep regular customers!!

“Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014 via mobile

Visited on 11/1/14. Not impressed with meal but don't want to sound too negative. Ambience good, service good. However, when you order a T-bone steak at £29.00 you would expect to get a mushroom, onion rings and maybe a grilled tomato. The biggest let down was frozen chips. At £29.00 you would expect hand cut. Similar restaurants in the area offer the same meal with trimmings for on average £22.00. Owner reduced price to £26 after I complained but still too expensive for what it was.

“Fantastic quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

Called with my husband for a meal on Thursday evening. We both started with the cheese and spinach soufle. It was fabulous, perfectly cooked with so much flavour. The theme continued into the mains. I had Sea Bass and my husband had fillet steak. We couldnt fault anything as the quality shone through. The service was excellent too. This is one of the best meals I have had at a restaurant/pub. It wasnt cheap, however it was a class above the norm and represented value for money. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys quality food.
