“Fantastic surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2007

We stopped in at the Pear Tree without having a booking for dinner or a room, we had simply left home Friday morning with a list of a few places off the Alistair Sawday website.

It wasn't just a pleasant surprise it was a wonderful shock!

First the food is fantastic, they have a reputation and deserve it. Great wines too. Lovely pub atmosphere and that carries through into the restaurant.

We decided to ask for a room and althogh it wasn't inexpensive, at 100/night for two it's not super pricey either. And the room was probably the nicest I have ever had outside a 4 or 5-star hotel. It was gorgeous. Plush but not overdone. Comfy but still upscale.

The bathroom was also terrific and included Molton Brown goodies. The breakfast was a big spread of cold stuff plus breads/muffins and a cooked English breakfast with anything we wanted on top of all that. Amazing.

The staff was so warm and friendly we wanted to stay longer, but I'm spending $ (yikes) and we had somewhere else to be. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I hope I can find a reason to return.

I'll try to post a picture too.

Stayed February 2007

The Pear Tree is an inn with rooms. The Inn is a traditional, relaxing pub with a great atmosphere. It has open fires, candles on the tables and excellent food. The bedrooms are delightful, a comfortable bed with fresh, crisp white linen sheets, soft, comfortable pillows and home made biscuits with the tea and coffee in the room. The service can not be faulted, they are friendly and efficient, anyone willing to give this place a try will not be disappointed, enjoy.

What a delightful stay we had in The Pear Tree Inn. Booked for the Easter weekend, the only place with available rooms three weeks prior the stay. Not cheap at £105, but the quality and attention to details totally justifies the price. The room was absolutely delightful; although the building itself is fairly old, built in 18th century from the light local stone, the spacious bedroom fitted in creams and whites had a comfy bed, Bang & Olufsen flat TV and speakers sunk in the wall and even an internet connection. The bathroom was a sleek affair of marble, stainless steel, cosy towelling robes and Molton Brown toiletries. As for the restaurant, we struck a gastronomic gold. All the dishes sounded extremely appetising, prepared from fresh organic produce. Both of us were absolutely thrilled with our choices and the waiter was very helpful and knowledgable when recommending wine. I can honestly say that the cheeseboard, consisting solely of English cheeses, is the best one I ever had. I'd definitely go back, I was absolutely charmed by this place.
