“Top Ploughman's Lunch Plate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Delish Find Foods is an excellent Deli on the No. 3 Highway in Upper Tantallon, NS. We have been enjoying their wonderful soups, sandwiches, varied breakfasts superb deserts, and especially a full fantastic Ploughman's Lunch for the past two years. Linda and Dennis offer a full plate in their Ploughman's Lunch which usually has four slices of their own deliciously cured ham, a large tasty, warmed roll, a couple of slices of tomatoe, pickled onions, branston pickles, lettuce and a couple of large slices of cheese and of course what would a Ploughman's lunch be without a couple of slices of local eggs. Put that together with a great cup of coffee or properly brewed tea, truly friendly owners and staff and you could not ask for a more delicious lunch. We have eaten a great number of Ploughman's lunches during our life time, in many countries, especially good old England and we feel this experience is one of the best we have encountered.

“Best fully cooked breakfast in HRM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We heard of Delish through word of mouth and ventured there yesterday for breakfast. What a wonderful experience. We had 2 fully cooked breakfasts (includes your first coffee) and wandered thru the shelves of imported goodies. The coffee was really good and the owners treated us like royalty. What a treat to have real gammon back bacon. Food was wonderful. Went home with 2 bags full of homemade frozen meat pies and sausages. We will definitely come back!

“Not so great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

My daughter and I ate there yesterday and were singularly unimpressed with the food we ordered. We each had the ploughman's lunch: two slices of unimpressive, flavourless ham, one sliced egg, two slices of a roma tomato, three pickled onions, one meagre slice of cheddar, what looked like a glorified hotdog bun and about one tablespoon of Branson pickle. This was a an outrage at around $10.00.

The server was friendly and the fellow who I believe was the owner, was cordial. I will not be going back.

We were sorry to hear about your disappointing lunch, when you visited our establishment. We have served many happy customers with our Ploughmans Lunch and have had nothing but positive comments on it. If you are visiting this area again, please come and see us and we would only be to happy for you to try something else on us.

“A great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We had been travelling for some time and wondering where we might find somewhere to eat. We turned round having passed by this Cafe and were glad we had done this. We had home cooked food which was fresh and tasty and if ever passing thbis way again we would make a point of heading there. They can be found at 5280 st. Margarets bay Road, Upper Tantallon and it is probably worth calling them to make sure they are open. (902) 826-1436 or cell (902) 718-9739 ask for Denis Dineen. You will not be let down and prices are very reasonably. If the weather is good they have a few outside tables.

“Too much ballyhoo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

I am always on the look-out for British delicacies which will remind me of my childhood, so when I heard about Delish I just had to check it out.

This establishment is a store/cafe with the shelves of comestibles somewhat awkwrdly arrayed around the diner's tables--in some cases they have to move to let you see what is what.

We did not eat in the cafe but bought a bunch of stuff to take home: steak and kidney pie, two scotch eggs, some "pork" chipolata sausages, an eccles cake, two small individual pork pies and a bottle of Daddie's sauce. The total for that was almost $49.

The Eccles cake was very nice, if a little too heavy on the spice (clove?), The pork pies were good: the cold water pastry was fine and there was lots of jelly. The meat had a good consistency but not a lot of flavour. The Scotch eggs were frozen so that when thawed the hard boiled egg in the middle became strangely disconnected and damp. The sausage meat surrounding the eggs was good. The chipolatas were disappointing. Right density and grind but they had a strange, not very attractive (more like beef) flavour. The Daddies' sauce was ok and the bottle ($6.95)will last me at least a year.

The steak and kidney pie cost $13+ and was an absolute disgrace. We cut it into five segements and in three of them there was no meat of any description. In the others the merest suggestion of stewing beef (steak is not used despite the dish's name) and a few minuscule pieces of kidney. It was as dry as a bone thus denying us what every good S & K pie must have--lashings of thick, rich gravy. But worst of all, the miserly quantity of filling was padded with chopped boiled potato. My old mum would have said "Daylight robbery", but I am of a more charitable disposition.

Nothing we bought was so good that we would ever return. Apparently this place won the Telegraph's Best British Store outside the UK contest. Either multiple voting was allowed or I would not want to spend much time with the competition. Too much ballyhoo, not enough value.
